  • Engine Cover Polishing & Maintenance - Aluminium/Chrome

    Hey guys,

I've been bothered with this since rainy season settled in. I own a Conti - GT & living in Bombay means salt & humidity plays havoc on the chrome & shiny bits of the bike.

    Basically my issue is this.

The engine covers are stained & I'd like them nice & shiny. My search on the net landed me with some metal-polishers like "Flitz" etc but none of these are available locally, would help if some of you can gimme names of any other metal polishers available locally.

If someone can throw light on ho to go about maintaining this part of the bike in general, then that'd be great info for others too.

Interestingly when I went to a local shop & the guy asked my purpose he handed me with a Green Bar (shaped like a Gold Bullion ) And a disc with many layers of cotton cloth stiched together. He said to mix bit of that into oil & use this pad with a drill?? Anyone know anything about this!!!

        Hi Kaushik,

Please try to get your hands on Autosol Aluminium Polish. You do not need a buffer to use it and you can do it with your own hands. Requires quite a bit of work, but would take out oxidation like magic. I used the product for more than a year in Mumbai's corrosive weather on my Beloved CI 350. It also leaves a protective layer on the shining surface so wont be tarnished as easily as simple buffed surface. There was one guy from Dahisar or Borivali who was a distributor and a 200gm tin cost about 500 INR in 2010. Will PM the number if I can retrieve.

For chrome parts I used to coat with Waxpol Car wax ( Rims, spoke, Handle bar, Silencer,Saree guard and It held well. Do remember to do this on a weekly basis though. I never faced rust problem of the Chrome for close to 2 years that I had the Bullet with me.

Hi Kaushik, autosol has become incredibly expensive..i recently bought a toothpaste size tube for a couple grand.
Please go to your local motorcycle wala and ask for ' fatafat chakachak'..yeah i know ,i know the name sounds corny..its a white powder some 250 gram plastic bottle cost me 45 rupees. it has given me the same results as my 2000 rupee wala autosol polish, if not better.
