  • [Photo Feature]: Moving my 200NS from Tamilnadu to Maharashtra

    Dear Xbhpians,

I'm Guna and I currently own Pulsar 200NS in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. I got new job in Pune and I'm looking to move my bike to Pune.

As for as I contacted agent here, they are advising me to buy second hand bike in pune and sell it when I'm returning to some other city in 1 or 2 years.

When I asked the reason, he told,

    1) Getting NOC will costs more than 6 thousand.
    2) Transporting the bike costs around 5 thousand.
    3) Road tax and Re-register Pune coats 10 thousand.

So I request you to clarify on the following,
    1) What's the procedure for getting NOC and how much it costs
    2) Do I need to Re-register my bike at pune and also what's the validity of NOC.

It will be grateful if someone really helps me out..
Are there any Xbhpians from Pune?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Gunasekaran.N

    Approved!

NOC costs 50 rupees. We got the same done for my room mate when he moved from Chennai to Allahabad (UP).
Visit a nearby Police Station with your bike and all valid documents. You get NOC in a day or two after verification. NOC is valid for 90 days.

You need not re register your bike in Pune. Just paying the road tax would be enough (but you won't get back the money from TN RTO in this case).
Carry the road tax receipt in Pune always and cops won't bother you.

    How many thousands saved?

Wait, does that mean he can keep the TN number and not be harassed by the traffic cops here?

        Yes Deathmate.Zed.

My friend from my hometown, has a TN registered bike and when he moved to KA for a job, he brought his bike along. He paid life-time tax in KA. And retains his TN number (attachment to hometown registration number ).

Effectively, he has paid tax in two states (in TN and in KA) and can ride in both these states without any issue.

Wow. Then it will be simple. But some agent threaten that, you need to Re-register in Pune.
Sometimes they won't ask in Bangalore as its near to Tamilnadu. For Pune, its must required.

Also I have a doubt that whether NOC to be obtained from local police station or RTO?

          Thanks a lot..

A lot of my friends in Pune are riding KA reg bikes after paying LTT there.

Local Police Station hands you the clearance certificate stating that your bike is clean, i.e; not stolen, has all papers etc.
Then you submit the same at the RTO with another form (forgot the form number, your RTO would help). If you're lucky; you'd get the NOC the same day, else in a couple of days.

P.S - Since you'd be going minus an agent; you may have to stand in line for a couple of hours. Also, ensure you have all docs handy otherwise they'd send you back. Getting things done without palm greasing is tough in our beloved nation.

I share the same situation. I ride a JH reg bike in KA minus any hassles since I chose to pay LTT here.

Thanks DS. Is an NOC required while selling the bike if the bike is from another city but in the same state? One agent has told this to my friend who is looking to sell his Nanded registered bike in Pune.

Also, how much does the LTT amount to? Is it really high?

Yup. NOC should always be obtained even if selling your vehicle to your neighbor. This way you won't be harrassed by cops in case of theft, accident, other stuff happening in/with your erstwhile vehicle.

Depends from state to state. KA has ridiculous taxes. I paid more LTT in KA (when my bike was already 3 years old) than what I paid in JH when it was brand new.

Just carry a xerox copy of your invoice/receipt (bike purchase) and visit the nearest RTO. They will let you know the LTT amount. It's not fixed across the nation and depends on the bike MSRP, it's age, depreciation etc.

Today I went to my RTO and they said I don't need NOC to drive bike in Pune or any other city. Just LTT in that state is enough. Just produce a letter to respective RTO stating the reason why you wanna stay here and how long. That's it.

NOC is only required if you are planning to Re-register there..
