  • R15 V 1.0 Engine trouble, need help!

    Good day,

I am a new member with a 6yr old R15, and now I have kept the bike idle for months it has started showing all kind of symptoms which indicates that I should check my engine.
Starting with the heat indicator, it flashed red exactly after a 10K ride, and then the gear change gives me a big sound, especially when I down. Checked with 2 service centers and they are asking me to do an engine check which can cost upto 25K. One of my very good friend suggested me to decarbonise the engine.
What can be done here ? Thanks in advance.

    Help Topic Approved.

Stop operating the vehicle first. The engine oil might have leaked or be low, and you might risk seizure of engine.

I don't think an engine "check" costs Rs. 25,000. Something must have missed your notice.
Well, how about going for an engine oil change first? That is much cheaper & safer than opening the engine. Raise revs slowly after just changing the engine oil...

And which city are you from? I could link you up to some Xbhpians who might help you.

The ownership thread of R15 version 1.0 is here, so you might search here for info: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...a-yzf-r15.html

Mr. Thomas ... How long did you park the vehicle, and in which condition ? was it left outside to get drenched in rain, or in a humid place ?..These type of conditions will lead to water vapor condensation inside the engine and cause rust formation if not used .
From your description it seems like you have used the bike with , low or no Engine oil . Whenever a vehicle is parked for long time , it is good practice to check the engine oil and top up if required, before starting it....and keep an eye on the Engine oil Level every 800 Kms .
Always get an inspection and/or engine job done with an SVC ,who will give Guarantee for the work and parts.
      Good Luck.

Go for a oil change and while changing put a oil flush so that all smudge can drain out, give proper adjustment to chain and if still nothing happens do make engine overhaul and nothing cost around 25k until your whole engine, gearbox, clutch,Fi is going to Change.

Thanks much for the input guys, and am from Bangalore... I kept the bike for almost 3 months idle, and the first thing I did was to go for a service, did again after a months time when I found the gear shift seemed not normal, and both the times, SVC guys asked me to go for an engine check. Currently am hanging around with the 2nd service done after the idle period, and before the next service due, I wanted to get a clear opinion on the engine check.
