  • Digital speedometer, upjetting, and filter for Honda Dio

Hey, I'm new here. My name is Aniruddha, and I'm from Pune. I own a 2013 Honda Dio with 11 thousands on ODO. I'm not gonna get any bike/scooter after this one because of parents. They think that cars are more safe. So I've decided to spend money on my dio instead of getting new bike in future.
I have started with its exterior. I've wrapped whole body with carbon fiber vinyl wrap, smoked tints for headlight and tail lights. And white LED HID headlight. Now I want to upgrade it's performance. So i explored xbhp and Internet. And I've decided to go for UNI or cosworth air filter, iridium spark plug with splitfire sparkplug cable and a racing CDI. But as air filters make air fuel mixture disturbed, I'll have to upjet the carburetor. I want to know that will local (I live in pune) mechanics be able to upjet my dio? Or should I import upjets from outside. And what size it should be? Where can I find a racing CDI for dio in india? It's hard to get parts from outside because not many people mod 4 stroke scooters.
Also, I've seen some videos of old dio with digital rpm meter/speedometers is there any DIY for that? Does anyone know where will I get rpm meters for scooters? I just want to know that at which rpm my scooter is running. So analog rpm meter will also do the job. I just want to know that how to fit it in dio and is there anyone who can do it?

Which filter should I buy? UNI? Green filters? Or cosworth?

I'm also looking for a good experienced mechanic in pune who will be able to do this all.
if it all goes as planned, I'll go for free flow exhaust and sprockets. So someone please help me
Drop a gear and disappear ;)

I too own a Dio. It is not justifiable to modify it for more performance considering the ride quality of the Dio. My suggestion is if you want to upgrade performance, try changing the front spring load suspension to forks and a racing throttle first. Altering the CDI makes it difficult and it leads to a very poor mileage. Cosmetic upgrades are fine but again when it comes to Digital speedo the wiring is a big factor. If its not done properly then its a total mess, you will also have to change it to DC. Analog RPM meter can be done if you can find a place to fix it cleanly.

I always thought of getting better wheels like the Tvs scooters, a 12" rim. But i wont fit the Dio. I tried.

Anyway all the best! Keep us posted.

I'm gonna get a four wheeler after this. So DIO is all I have so that's why I want to modify it to churn all the performance it has.

Okay, I'm thinking about dropping the idea of racing cdi. But for right now, I'm confused between filters. And a local mechanics said that he'll get a dual needle spark plug at around 650₹ which will increase the performance. So what I'm asking is, should I go with it or should I go with iridium spark plug?

What kinda performance is he taking abt? I believe that might help with idling, fuel economy. Increase in power not gonna happen with that. Regarding filters wrt dio, I have no idea. I'm sorry. I'll let u know in case if I'm able to gather info on that.

Iridium spark plug usually create greater spark, so better combustion hence, it will increase throttle performance, idling, cold starts and thus, overall performance

I understand you wanna experiment and get more performance out of your scooter, but believe me you won't get much increase in performance considering the cost and resources you are going to put into it.
I am not trying to demotivate you here, but you should keep in mind that it is a scooter after all! [emoji1]

Yeah I'm not gonna spend more than 10k in a scooter. I'm getting a UNI air filter for 1400₹, spark plug for 900₹, spark plug cable for 350₹ and fitting and upjetting for around 300-400₹ max. So I'm willing to spend around 3k right now. If I get a racing CDI, I'll get it for around 1500₹ and fitting 100₹ so i dont think I'll spend ALOT on it.

                          Utter waste of money.

And what exactly will you up jet? Also, in your opening post; you mentioned sprocket mods. How exactly would that be achieved on a scoot?

So you want to spend up to 10k (at max) and gain what? Maybe 3-4% on performance. What benefit would you see on the road?

I think engine gets damaged when people install filters and air flow increases in air mixture resulting in heated engines with lean fuel mixture. By upjetting the pilot jet and main jet, it can be balanced at the cost of 3-5km/l average. And I'm personally ok with it.

I not planing any major engineering modifications like sprockets right now. It was just a thought. That's why I'm asking for suggestions. And as I said earlier, I'll upjet the carburetor. (either main jet or both pilot jet and main jet.)

I dont think that it'll make only 3-4%. And nevertheless modding has become my hobby nowadays I'm also gonna mod my upcoming Polo TDI
