  • Wire spoke rims dual sport tires Duke 390

    Hi,

I've seen Deelip's Ratchet and others using dual sport tires on their Duke 390s.
I would like to swap the alloys for wire spoke rims to use with dual sport tires, either Pirellis or the Ceat's.

I've seen some of the rally KTM photos on Facebook with wire spokes, but can't ping them as I'm not on FB.
Any pointers to fitting these and keeping the ABS functional?

This is so I can have peace of mind biking in Ladakh.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Guys whats so much of fuss for spoked rims. All you need is right measures of wheel hubs, n rim diameter of the current alloy wheels and simply buy disc - spoke rim hubs and rims of the same measures and get it built but a local wheel builder. It's that simple. All you need to keep in mind is hub width and rim size.

Haha. Sir that be the cyclist in you speaking.

I have not heard of a lot of wheel builders in the motorcycle community, for the simple reason, very few people want spoked wheels! Do you think a cycle wheel builder would manage building a wheel for a motorcycle??

Also don't think the parts will be easily available.

Finally motorcycles run at a much higher speed and carry a lot more weight. Getting it wrong on a motorcycle would be far worse than a cycle.

I am not saying that it is impossible to build a wheel, but one should be extremely careful.

Yes a bicycle wheel builder can build motorcycle wheels and usually most if them definitely have that knowledge. I think in India atleast you can still get a boat loads of parts for spoked wheels since many bottom end and Enfield bikes do use it. Yes getting the fit right is important. And if the spokes are rightly tensioned I don't think there should be an issue. But yes its best to test ride them for atleast a month before embarking on such a long tour
