  • Rev limiter question.

    Guys,
I just want to know if our 100cc bikes have rev-limiter. Yesterday i took the splendor over 90kmph @4th gear, and heard a fluttering metal noise (trrrr to be exact), and it didn't accelerate further.
after reduciing to 80kmph immediately picked up and bike moved good. I am wondering if I hit rev limiter or some damage has happened?

    Query Approved

I don't believe any of these bikes have Rev Limiters
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      Re: Rev limiter question.

100 cc bikes mostly do not have a rev limiter and haven't seen one with a rev limiter, but due to me taking my activa to it's top speed of 85 after that the engine cuts off (or doesn't catch more speed) then once the speed drops to around 80, it will again zoom to 85 and the same thing is repeated until i drive around 80.

So it maybe that the engine cut off to save the engine from damage since it's a 100 cc bike its not meant to be driven over 70-80 so try to stay around those numbers.

That's nice to know, thanks. I wouldn't have worried if speed simply reduced, it is accompanied with a loud clatter at 90kmph (does cdi do anything at that rpm?) and sudden power loss, so wondering if piston hitting valve or valve float. My valve clearances are perfect. I am thinking valve springs getting loose causing float, just guess. Earlier i would be able to ride at WOT in highways, now something is limiting , i will try to adjust valve clearance on looser side.

I would get it checked with a good mech you can trust or a good svc. and explain them what happens and see if they can provide you a better solution.

Yeah sure, I learnt not to rev it over 85kmph for now. It should be the valve spring weakening as i read from all other sites. Lesson learnt , never abuse 100cc bikes over 80kmp

I abuse my activa all day going to work taking it at 85 and since it's a Honda engine it likes it

                Re: Rev limiter question.

I think it is due to carburetor... The ratio between air and fuel gets a big gap... When engine is at its peak, it burns fuel as much as it can, at that point carburetor unable to supply excess fuel... But the air is still sent lot from our throttle whereas fuel is less... This results to empty air that is when engine shuts off, when throttle is released, Speed is reduced and fuel burning reduces gradually and air fuel mixture ratio becomes normal in carburetor and bike runs again normally... This might be the reason I guess... On damage part, I have no idea... By the way, carburetor is a device which mixes air from our throttle and petrol from tank and supplies fuel to engine for combustion...

                  Re: Rev limiter question.

My bad, I was thinking noise came from engine for past 1 week.. revved it in neutral. Exactly at particular rpm that noise came, it was the leg guard vibrating at damn high frequency against the frame, which I have thought was tappets. Out of fear i release the throttle, it acted like rev limiter lol. Removed the leg guard temporary, ran at wide throttle reached 90, after all it's honda engine which won't mess up soon. Thanks for suggestion friends.
