  • Is my bike's battery dead????

I have purchased yamaha ss125 on 12/12/12& after about 2 years i started facing battery problems.

If i don't take out my bike for a week then self starter, horn, indicator(even the neutral indicator also) will not work.
situation is so bad that if i mistakenly left the key on the bike for a night in on position (only neutral light is on) then on the next day i have a fully drained battery.

So a few days ago i took out my battery top up it with distilled water & charged it for 8 long hour(with the help of home inverter). After charging i measured the voltage of my battery it shows around 13.3-13.6 volt but within 15 min it dropped to 12.07 volt(without any load).

My battery brand is amco & it is a lead acid type battery.

So i want to know is my battery dead & it is the time to replace it???
Also i have checked the regulator rectifier output voltage by measuring the voltage of the positive and negative wire (which connects to the battery) while the engine is on.

    Result:- with battery - 13.3-14.5V
    without battery - 4.5 - 6.5V
    Is that ok??

If i have to replace my battery which brand should i choose Exide or Amaron????
can i opt for a mf type battery????
If i choose a mf type battery do i need to change my rectifier????
Lastly can i go for a higher amp battery(current one has 5 amp)

    Thanks a lot.

    Query Approved

It does look like your battery is done and dusted. I have had good experiences with both Exide and Amaron, but most people recommend Amaron over Exide.

Why would you ever leave your ignition on for the entire night??
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I use a 5 amp in my FZ and its close to 4 years now. It is aging ... but consider this that your's is almost too. An MF is a hassle free life ... and last for 48-60 months. Though I cannot find Amaron Alpha series anywhere in Hyderabad.

I've used Amaron always ... and only because there are so many who swear by it. A 9A battery is bigger and the battery case might not hold it ...so going for a bigger bike is not useful. Also switching to an MF doesn't need you to change any of the electrical components.
When I'm on the road, I'm indestructible. No one can stop me... but they try.

Thanks Naveen. I will definitely check my battery case before buying a bigger battery.

If I can accommodate a bigger battery will there be any other problem??

I think your bike battery is dead and you need to replace it. Because you charged and top up it with distilled water, after that it provides 15-20 min backup it means battery is completely dead.

For your confusion i suggest both Exide and Amaron Batteries good as performance and quality wise. Purchase battery online, because many online portal sell batteries on cheapest price with free delivery & installation service.

Recently i bought battery for my Royal Enfield Thunderbird (ES) on Batterybhai and i got installed battery by them self at affordable prices.
