• Is TVS Apache RTR 180 doing wrong?

Hi,

I bought RTR 180 about 1 Yr and 4 Months back. Though the bike is good, but sometimes I fell some problems with the engine...

Recently I have faced some problem with my clutch and also with the RPM.

1. The problem I faced in clutch is, I have to leave the clutch little microseconds/second/seconds late and also the clutch lever play is more loose when pressing...
I have told this problem to mechanic while giving to service, and they too have done clutch adjustments... All the free 4 service they have done this..
PS:-(Free service period is once in 2 months or 2k which ever is earlier)
But again and again after some weeks I felt same and after some months (like 2-3 Months), I felt that problem got increased little more.

2. And with my RPM, sometimes, if I have reduced the gear and speed, and came to first gear, the RPM is not getting down to idle RPM. Instead it is lying in somewhere around 3-4K range and sounds like something. The SVC persons have adjusted something. But still sometimes I am getting it....

I feel like there may be some problem with the internals or is there some other problem....

I have inquired about these kind of issues with friends having R15, CBR.. But they told, "We are not having such problems"...

Whether, TVS is sacrificing on the quality on the products, because of doing the low cost budget on RTR.

I am not complaining anybody, hereby.

I just want to know, why the bike is behaving so, when compared to other bikes in the segment.

Eagerly looking towards the suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

nanda.t.kumar - trust me, these are common problems faced by most riders. TVS maybe cutting costs elsewhere, but not in these components.

1. Change the clutch wire and have it greased end to end. Then set its free play of about 10mm. This figure obviously may be changed as per your comfort. Lastly, check the left hand side (clutch) lever for wear as well.

2. Have your throttle body cleaned and Air Fuel Ratio set to factory settings.
A clean air filter helps too.

The clutch response little late. it's one thing i dislike in RTR. in a stop-go traffic condition, not very good.

Not sure what the problem is, but it's more profound during winter. and first few minutes after startup.

Hi Nanda,

I'd like to suggest something..

I had Apache for more than 4 years. Rode around 50 K. Didn't have much problems.

The problems you mentioned are most common and can be minimised easily.

1. For the clutch, get the clutch wire cleaned and get it lubricated (preferably at services). If it doesn't solve, get the damn wire changed. :P
2. And for the RPM being stuck at 2-3K even after leaving the throttle, get Carburetor checked (cleaned) and adjust the AFR.

Hope this helps..
rahul- one thing about vibrations, these will be more at 4-4.5K RPM and then reduce to some extent. Until you take it to max. obviously then i'll vibrate a lot.
