  • Disappointed - Help!

I am disappointed with the way the things have turned around.
After all the surveys and discussions made to buy a good bike, after
all the searches for the right bike now i stand in a position where
i ask myself was all the fun worth?
I saved each penny and bought a decent bike(rx 100) spent thousands of cash on it and time too for restoring. spent all the savings for the ride, so much that balance read Rs100.00 .
Not even 4000 kms on the ODO, putt putt putt and crash. the the engine bore went kaput. the bike was done up with the last size piston.
now spending another Rs XXXX is out of reach and the bike being the only ride for daily use.
Is it worth putting the hard earned money back on the build or dispose off the bike and buy a new 4 stroker?
right now i am so confused and angry that i feel like dumping the bike and lighting it up into flames. its not only the time and money spent on it, the expectations , the envy others showed, the praises all gone .

Sorry to hear that brother....well about your problem I would like you to do onething ask yourself if u r ready to shell out another 5-10grands for this bike after which she should be running all fine..... or you want to buy a new bike......
whatsoever bro just my personal point (no offence) but do our nearby leave us or dump us when we go sick or break a leg or r seriously ill..... I didnt like the idea of u saying - " feel like dumping the bike and lighting it up into flames " I can understand ur agony and anger but then we are bikers..... we dont stand without our bikes.... so please think and let me know..

Save the Earth - We are the one who are running out of time, as Earth will take it own time to heal but that time may not be enough for us.

@Karthik, the situation you find yourself in is indeed a highly emotional one. You will simply go through it for a while - no matter what is told to you by whom.

But only one thing can get the smile back on ur face, the pride and the ego boosted... it might cost you around 5K to get a new bore kit. Get it done, may be after a month or even two... it will be worth your pain, effort, dreams & money.

If you want an RX100 only an RX100 can satisfy you...also, there's no point selling ur bike for scrap now and spending another 40-60K on a new 4 stroker.

@pk28.karthik : I can understand your situation --- and yes - i too was an Enthusiast like you when i was new to the Biking World....

But the real fact is many say OLD is GOLD but the true factor is OLD will be GOLD only if you shell countless Money on it.....

If you look for a bike which should not give you any trouble and mindfree biking.....Just go for a New Bike.....THere are plenty of bikes available in the Market - buy it and be mind free for many years...
If you have dreams of reconstructing your RX then have it with you --- and one day will come to make her Roaring.....

Coz i myself on your Lane and having my Old Bike with me --- and dreams awaiting to reconstruct my Rusting Babe..

            Hi karthik,
I remember replying to quite a few posts when you were decidng on the bike and i feel sad on what has happened. There's no point in crying over spoilt milk. My suggestion would be Buy a new bike but donot dispose this one. Down the line when you can save some cash, just get that re-done and you will be in possession of 2 machines..one for economy travel (4 stroke) and one Ego booster (Rx100). I personally feel there's no bike like the RX. Keep it

I have been through this, its hard to say anything now..
Its the right time to get the new bike.. and if you still have patience left keep the RX save some money(take you time) rebuild it, you will never regret it when the bike is back to life.

Thank you guys for the responses.

Yes looking at the fun and heads turned with this bike, i would keep it and restore it immediately.at the same time the ghost of this rebuild haunts me. What if the next engine work also back fires?

Idea of keeping this on stand and going for a new one stuck to my mind too, but looking at the bike in that pity condition will hurt anybody right? So was planning to pass it on to someone who gets the right juice out of it.But what the heck, when someone else can why not me?

This saturday i am going to open the engine and have a look at what exactly is the position.
After this the main question arises, from whom should i get the engine work done? finally what will the amount i will be coughing up?

What are the things i should be changing to rebuild the bike back to life? The bike looks in great shape to go by with the cosmetics.

If you ask me, you said the bore was on last re-bore so better get a new bore kit (you will get 135 bore kit) restore it to stock condition..

You said you had restored the bike before, what all things had you done. Is your oil pump working?

Planning to get the new bore kit(135 kit) and stock condition for sure.

Last restoration saw reboring and last size Mahle piston going in.
re mapping the Crank assembly which had little play.
Complete clutch assembly including plates, bell , housing etc
                        Gear connecting rod,gear lever
                        Kicker connecting rod
Oil pump functioning( removed that from friends bike and connected to mine)
fork refurbishing and increased the height by one inch spacers inside.
                        Rectifier(Shoguns)
                        Head light assembly changed.
removed the stock headlight stay and got a high raised one.
                        New rear tyre
                        New Shocks for the rear(Escorts)
got the new locking system from RXZ

Changed the handle bar for a wider one.
                          changed the clutch cable, lever
front break lever, electricals, mufflers(for more crisper beats)
                          Seat work.
                          5 speed foot rests.
ODO reset to 0000 after run in period. removed the side indicator panels and retained the ODO only(placed to the left side)

after all this the bike was run in perfectly for 1300kms( riding below speeds of 50) then opened up step by step.with a wash and little wax bike was looking like brand new.

was planning to change the stands with the 5 speed ones.
The only thing which was not done was paint work(not needed-looks new).

I can understand your love for the old machine. I would say, get a bike for daily usage, then keep this aside&see after a few months, if you still feel the craving for this old Yam, get it redone at an authorized Yamaha SC!
