@viv.nomad - dude how much mileage are you getting that you aren't happy or need more??

best option would be a K&N filter and keep the revs across all gears low.. guaranteed better mileage...

i read on R15 manual that they are using different kind of piston hence i was curious abt the same for unicorn... coz theoretically it will improve both !!

hmmm.. dunno if you could find similar piston...
but you could try getting a "Hard Chrome" job for the piston and cylinder lining... friction drops big time.. thereby improving efficiency alrite!!!

                  hey guys
doesn't k&n air filters allows more dust into ur carb n den engine?
nd is it nt necessary 2 hv free flow exhaust to allow for increased exhuast of gases as dere will be more gas per exhaustion stroke due 2 more air through k&n air filters
The Automotive batteries are designed to work best in a typical short start-stop fashion.
So to increase the life of your automobile battery, blow the horn and flash the pass light in a quick start stop fashion instead of a conitnuous long horn blow or flash light continuous on!!
And obviously don't stretch the self start far too long.

brah the filter are used for that very purpose i.e. filter the air from dust particles and supply clean air to carb..

and yes they will increase the amt of good air entering the system!!

Install a free flow air filter without upjetting and kiss your inlet and exhaust valves goodbye!!

A free flow air filter makes the mixture more lean.Lean mix = more heat = more valve damage

U need bigger jets if u go for free flow air filter. But then bigger jets affect fuel efficiency!!

And no you dont need a free flow exhaust compulsorily if you install free flow air filter.

i hv read many articles on K&N air filters
in 1 it was mentioned dat an ideal mixture of 14.7:1 is possible without expensive filters and is a default factory setting on all automobiles.
so y to disturb dat ideal mixture with more air ?
carbs go out of tune with time and miles and must be retuned 2 get back 2 d ideal mixture.
what makes me suspicious about their quality and reliability is dat dese filters are still not used in grand prix superbike races(irrespective of their high HP gains) , meaning dey r nt recommended by ne brands.
                        neways no wars for it
                        just my views

exactly this is what makes me wonder too.

If k&n says guaranteed HP increase then why dont big performance bikes come with those installed?

Tried K&N for about 3000Kms, before i returned to my stock. I was using it without up jetting it, and yes it did increase the mileage by as much as 2kmpl! But that' translates into leaner combustion, hence engine overheating. So as you adjust the carb to compensate for that, it basically gives you stock performance and mileage. More Air + More Fuel.

All in all, K&N does make a difference in performance, but so less that you wo'nt be able to make out a difference.

And why don't company like bajaj go for a free flow exhaust? Perhaps it has to do with the emission norms, decibels and the vibes it adds.

K&N, on the box says - for off road racing!
