  • bajaj avenger front forks modification

    Hii guys,

I am planning to modify the suspension of my avenger. I am looking at plonking up the new thunderbird's front forks to get a beefier looking and FUNCTIONAL front end.
In the rear too, I want to plonk in the thunderbird's gas charged shockers.

For the front anybody having a comparison of the fork lengths of the two bikes?? Any other suggestions would help..

It wont be a direct fit. You will have to modify everything from T stem, coneset to clamps holding the handlebar along with the forks ( dont know what is the correct term).

Forks are much taller as compared to avenger and so are the Brake rotors. So the brake caliper has to be changed and so does the wheel. Dont know wether RE rotors are direct fit.

As far as I my little knowledge goes, isn't the steering geometry at stake ?

Not just forks, almost everything will have to be changed at the front.

nothing is impossible but what you are trying to do is almost close to it.

first and foremost. you would need to change the T-Stem, and completely front and also the barrel on the frame which holds the t-stem. which itself needs 100% precision else you will end up with a unstable bike. even if you are done with it lemme add you are adding weight in the front in the end it would end up as a bad mod job and some 25k down the drain.

The front forks seem taller because the rake angle is less than avenger on the thunderbird. A direct unloaded length comparison will help give a proper idea of the ride height by geometric calculations. I am planning to change the wheels too. Eyeing the new pulsar alloys. I was first keen on the ktm duke's wheels, but backed off because of the number of crack stories. Upfront, i want to use the 100/80 r17 tires and for the rear i have decided the pirelli 140/70 r17. The rear brakes wil also be discs.

Any idea when the new avenger 200 will be launched??

Thanks for the input. I suppose a new T stem can be fabricated using the avenger's stem and new T flanges which will have the matching hole dia for the forks to pass through. This eliminates any need for modifying the barrel in the chassis

but why would you want to spend so much money on Avenger. its neither an exotic neither performance oriented engine.
for the amount of money and time you will spend + add to the resale and some more you can get a new motorcycle itself.

actually, I want a touring bike in my stable. Check out the other bikes I have owned in my gallery. A royal enfield has it's own set of problems (engine maintenance and vibrations). This bike will be shared by my bro and me. I will be using it mostly for long rides and i want to stand out, hence all this r&d.

Any idea when exactly will the new avenger be launched? Is it some time soon??

Re: bajaj avenger front forks modification

Buddy, you want a tourer in avenger with RE mods.

The amount you are going to pay for the mods n all. You can add some extra money by selling the avenger+the money which you were going to spend on the mods+a little bit money and you can buy a Enfield.

If you dont want to go for Enfield, the stock setup on avenger is more than sufficient for our indian roads. I have ridden it for 600 kms and trust me it is good and sufficient enough to pull the rider and luggage. Pillion I am not sure.

The current motor you own is 220, isn't that a nice tourer..?

About the new avenger and the Himalayan, all we can do is wait for the next auto expo and see whats what. Bajaj is going to launch some bikes by diwali. Could be possible that the new avenger might come.

                  Cheers,
                  Sanjay
