  • How to avoid paint chipping/ peeling of alloy during tyre removal

    Hello every one,

I recently changed the tyres of my 04 year old, 70000 km run Bajaj Discover 100. During changing tyres, the paint on the alloy wheels peeled off badly as the puncture wallah used his tools to remove off the old tyres. I have already advised them to be careful in removing the old tyres, but they said that it is inevitable. So request you XBhipians to put forward your views to avoid this in future and also as a guide to other motorcyclists looking forward to change tyres on their motorcycles. Also please give in your inputs how to paint these peeled off areas.

Mods please forgive if this is a dumb question. Since I could not find answer for this on the forum and this being an all together differrent issue, I have posted this as a new thread. Please merge this with some other thread, if this already exists.

    Looking forward for your views.

    Thanking you all in advance
    Srinivas

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I am also in the same boat buddy, we just can't convince the tyre guys to be more careful with our alloys. If we insist they get pissed off and give a pathetic I-know-everything look.

We should try to forget it as battle scars. :-(

One option is to stick wheel rim stickers, which will hide few areas where paint has chipped off.

There is a tool like this which can be used on the rims to project some accidental damage, which can happen during the tyre change or other works done to the wheel. But i have not seen any one owns or uses it from my experience.

If required we can buy one and take it to the shop and use it while working on our wheels. but i doubt its that much worth, unless you really give equal importance to the finish of the rim other than the integrity of the rims.

Thanks for the reply and info guys. Seems there is no way to avoid this. I personally do not like sticking a band of reflective radium sticker on the rim but this made me think if I can stick the same band with matte black colour.
