  • Which to keep? which to sell? a dilemma!!!

I am Rajhan aka fullmoon. I have a unicorn for my daily office commute of 45 kms in total. two years back i Bought a 1990 model cast iron engine royal enfield standard 350 bullet (left leg side -brake, right leg side-gear lever). Recently I got a used 2011 grey Honda CBR 250R -ABS version. For both of these I am the third owner, which affects the resale value to an extent. Both has few minor requirements to make it ok for my weekend rides.

Right now I need to sell any one bike and keep one for longterm.Recently I had done a ride of 270 km in CBR which was doing 120 kph effortlessly. On the other ride, Bullet felt heavenly riding at 70 kph (torquey). I didn't buy bullet for its thump, but i love to explore its mechanism. It is really a good bike for DIY persons. Recently I browsed a lot of videos about bullet 350 maintenance, service all DIY sort of jobs. It is really a simple machine comparable to modern bikes.

But CBR 250R is super reliable and effortlessly does high speeds. Now I am really in a dilemma. this post is truly not for boasting anything. I cannot keep three bikes for myself. Because wife has a vespa and a car for our family. I need to sell either cbr 250r or Bullet 350 old model. Really it is painful to decide.Because I love both. Since my Heart is overpowering my Brain, I thought to seek impartial suggestions from you all.

I would post pictures of both bikes in this thread. I want to annoy you with some details about both bikes to enable you to suggest with more clarity.

    Details:

    1) Year of manufacture:
    Bullet -1990
    CBR 250 R (ABS) - 2011
    2) Production:
Both are not in production, as of now.
    3) Spares Availability:
Bullet: In chennai, each and every small part is readily available, if one wants complete restoration is possible.
CBR 250R: yes available, don't know about future availability, say after 2 years.
    4) Fuel efficiency:
Bullet: 28 Kmpl (poor , need to sort out , achievable is 35 kmpl)
CBR 250R: 30 kmpl (city- at sane speeds) 25 kmpl - when ripping in highway
    5) My comfortable speed with the steed:
    Bullet : 70 Km/hr
    CBR 250R : 100-120 Km/hr
    6) DIY Possibility and customisation: Bullet: DIY is very much possible, customisation could be done at any time.
CBR 250R : apart from oil, oil filter and air filter change, i don't know anything.need to explore. Customisation is not required, it's already complete one.
    7) Reliabilty & Features
Bullet: Like a girlfriend, If proper attention & care shown, will behave well reliably. Features are nil when compared to modern bikes.
CBR 250R: Reliable, Features - you name it, it has all. (Disc brakes, FI, ABS etc.)

Please help me to decide which to sell and which to keep. I will do single rides only, no pillion. may do few group rides with friends. But mostly alone. My Age-35, Height - 5' 7'' , weight - 64 kg.

              I support Monk's advice :P

Seriously sir no one can make a decision on this so easily...

Both the bikes are gem of a gallery...

              think of scenarios like
              1. Which bike will not stop abruptly in a middle of a remote village when you are on a really long trip?
              2. Which bike can be easily repaired even if it's stopped?

The CI bull is a collector's item. You can probably hand it down to your grandson. The CBR is a no nonsense machine and a capable mile cruncher. Car and vespa are practical machines for a family man.

Not to leave out the Unicorn, it is a reliable commuter. If i were you, i would probably sell the Unicorn, use the CBR 250 for commute (ok it might be little more cumbersome in traffic, heavier on fuel, but hey, it will make adjust, force you to become fitter) and keep the bull for indulgence.

Good one. I intend to do the same when i buy a new bike. Teach my wife to ride a bike, and replace her scooter by handing over my bike. That way i will even save on her saree shopping expenses

CBR is new generation machine. It is advance in terms of stability, engine refinement. As per your concern you have to choose the better option, I would suggest it's good to keep the Enfield with and you can hand it over to next generation. You can buy advance and new generation machine loaded with new technology any time, but it's hard to find the old bullet and by the time it will be vintage.
