Thanks! Sir i have WD40 but I'm worried about spraying it down the TB as the R15 has an MAF sensor. Is it safe? I don't have a carb cleaner in hand. I do have fuel injector cleaner but as you know it doesn't come in aerosol cans. Can I use it?

I'm attaching a pic of the air box. Yet to find a way to remove that rubber snorkel. It doesn't have any screw or anything. I'm able to lift it off those clips but unable to detach its end from the box. Can you think of any ways to remove it sir? The box itself is in a very tight space. There's no space to access its sides. I hope you can see the shiny substance at the bottom of the box. It feels sticky like oil but smells like petrol.

WD40 can be used only when you are spraying directly on the Throttle body butterfly...Better to get Carburetor cleaner spray and by inserting the thin tube through the end of the rubber nozzle inside the Air Box, spray ...wait a few seconds and spray again to clear the gunk...start bike immediately..engine may sputter and hesitate, do not ride the bike but keep RPM at 2K for 1 minute , then start driving..
The sticky deposit inside the Air Box is the blowby oil Vapor...nothing to worry..

Thanks. Since I had already opened the air box, decided to try and see how bad it is. The clearance is very small so I wound a piece of cloth around a wire and put it in. Posting a pic of what I saw.

It looked so bad I decided to clean it. Luckily I have a bottle of my trusted injector cleaner with me. Dipped the cloth in it and cleaned the outside and inside of the butterfly valve several times. Used it based on the assumption that it won't damage the sensors since it's used in the fuel line and is volatile. I hope my assumption is right sir. Started the bike and everything appears normal. Haven't ridden it after cleaning.

I'll place an order for a cleaner anyways as I have never got the throttle body of the bike cleaned and I guess I can use it in the car as well. Is a carb cleaner really safe? I read somewhere that a TB cleaner is to be used as the carb cleaner can be too tough on the sensor and the clear coat on the intake. What's your experience sir?

Will update this thread later this week after a decent run to see if the problem is still there. Again, thanks a lot for the patience and help sir.

The deposit on the cloth looks really dark , indicating that a lot of deposit had been on the inside...A carburetor cleaner is usually used for cleaning the throttle body without ill effects. Since my Karizma has carb, I usually take it apart and clean it when required, and do not use carb cleaner. As for the Lancer i have, again I dismantle the throttle body from the inlet and then use Petrol or Iso Propyl Alcohol to clean the throttle body..I usually have a rag dipped in petrol to clean the inside of the inlet manifold once the Throttlebody is taken off.You can use the injector cleaner for cleaning TB..

Really sorry for the delayed update. I got the throttle body cleaner a bit late because of some logistical issues. Removing the R15's throttle body would be a tough job even for the svc mechanics. It is a very delicate job because of all the sensors and there are a lot of parts to remove, including the air box. So I cleaned the throttle body by spraying the cleaner into the intake. I did replace the new spark plug with the old one for cleaning. The bike would stall within seconds and would need a long crank to start again. When it started, it was giving out thick white/grey smoke. This I believe was the soot burning off as I didn't observe the same with the car even after the cleaner was coming out of the exhaust! Maybe the engine wasn't warm enough.

The idling rpm was bouncing off to 2000-2500 while cleaning and now after cleaning it starts at 1600 and settles for 1500. Before cleaning it was at 1400. I didn't bother to change it as Yamaha recommends 1300-1500rpm. The burst during cleaning to 2k-2.5k rpm must have been ECU's intervention to keep the engine running but can't we attribute the higher idling rpm post cleaning to better air flow into the engine?

I put the new plug back and took the bike for a run. The improvement noticed was the crispy engine note and feel. A serious improvement was noticed after the oil change the following week which I decided to do as I was using an injector cleaner in the tank. Was thinking about the Motul 300V but got an amazing deal on the Motul 7100 10W40. The engine doesn't run out of breath at all and feels very happy to rev now. Previously there was a reluctance to go above 7k irrespective of the oil I used but now even 8k is easy. And most importantly the stalling issue seems to have vanished .

You had done the much needed TB cleaning through DIY and the increased RPM at idle is due to the improved air flow through TB ,since the muck had been cleaned. The crisp throttle is also due to the same DIY of yours and I am happy that you had done it well.
