  • Bike Suggestion for Slip Disc Guy

    Hi Friends,

Important thing to consider : I have slip disc issue. So, I need a bike with good suspensions which won't show any impact on spine and doesn't put much pressure on the hands too.

    Info:
    1 - Budget - 1.5 - 2L
    2 - Age - 31
    3 - Height - 5'8
5 - Intended usage - Office commute and occasional log rides
6 - Fuel Efficiency requirement - Not important
7 - City & Highway percentage usage - 80 % city commute and once in a month highway
    8 - Approximate Daily running - below 10 Kms
    9 - Residence - Bangalore
    10 - Currently Owned: Yamaha FZ V1
11 - I can also go with bike modifications if required for the safety/comfort.

Currently, I own a FZ which is causing me pain in the legs if I ride for just 3-4 KM.

Recently I tried Bajaj Avenger Street 220 for almost 4hrs in the city and I had nominal pain that too in the hand only. I tried Activa, Aviator where I didn't had much issues but people asked me to stay away from scooters.

I believe "monoshock suspension" is not going well due to my isssues.

I am planning to buy cruiser now considering my experience with Bajaj Avenger 220 Street. Below are the cruisers I am considering:
1 - Royal Enfield - but heard there will be vibration issues with this bike which might add more stress on the spine
2 - Bajaj Avenger Cruiser model - not sure about the comfort compared to Royal Enfield bikes
3 - Bajaj Dominar - I liked this bike but I think this has also got mono shock suspension. So, this might also cause same issue like FZ
Or do I need to go with normal bikes like Unicorn/Shine/Splender where there is no monoshock suspension.

If someone has any suggestion on any other model based on their experience it would be very helpful for me.

At the end of the day, I want a bike with ultimate comfort which won't put any pressure on spine.

Kindly someone help me out on this.

    Thank in Advance.

    Query Approved
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

RE bikes are heavy and tiring to push from parking or standstill.
Dominar suspensions are hard as like Duke
Not ridden Avenger much but AFAIK it has good suspension for bad roads.

It's better to go for a normal bike for your scenario, consider the weight of the bike also with suspension setup.
A bike like ZMA comes to my mind.

Brother please don't take offence, but, you need to check with a spine Doctor first whether you should be riding a bike at all.

Please do not take a risk by riding with the problem you mention as it can easily escalate into more serious issues.

        All the best.

        Cheers

Thanks for the concern . I checked with doc and he said to go with some cruiser type which has got good suspension.

But I am confused in deciding the bike

Honda cbr250r have best suspension. Also karizma too but cbr250r is discontinued earlier this year and current karizma zmr looks ugly

So, I think both(cbr 250 and karizma) are ruled out , what about Bajaj Avenger Cruise (i am ok with bike customization/modifications )?

I think I am late for reply but you should try the Thunderbird as it will not cause pain in disc you should test ride it.

Thanks for the response bro. But RE's are known for their vibrations also, don't you think vibration will have some impact?

As from my experience it has much less vibrations than other RE and if any one in your friend circle has it you should take it on a long ride to check if it causes the pain or not and the pro for this bike will be the suspension and the laid back seating, try atleast around 10 kms it will tell you if not is for you or not. Take a wise decision don't hurry up as in a hurry you may end up with a wrong bike and try taking advice from those person who already have slip disc.

Appreciate your quick response buddy . I will definitely give a try.
And also, I have few other doubts like:
                      1. Does RE bikes are better in suspension compared Avenger Cruise/Street ?
                      2. And also as some one pointed, do i need to consider the height and weight of the bike too(RE is heavier right)?

Thanks again for your prompt response.

IMO, TB suspensions are hard enough even at the softest setting. Avenger Street is far good on suspensions compared to RE bikes.

All Royal enfield bikes are heavy enough
                        Thunderbird 350 weighing 192 Kg.
Classic 350 weighing around 190 Kg.

Can't say about avenger haven't driven it and I think you should keep a Sunday free and test ride the shortlisted bikes with a friend or wife and you will be the best judge for your comfort and if the showroom doesn't provide test drive go to any used bike dealership and if you get a lot of confused just use your car for daily commute and recover by doing exercise and then you can buy a bike which will suit you and no problem of your back I guess sorry if I am wrong on this aspect as i don't know but just suggesting.

Considering the suggestions, I think it's better to go with Avenger Cruise.

I will give a try once RE too by renting for a day and decide which one to choose Avenger Cruise/RE Thunderbird.

Thanks for your suggestions. Let me know guys if any one has anything to add here
