  • Fz-S not used for long time

    Hey guys,

I have FZ-S that I havent used for the last 18 months, due to my leg injury. Now I plan to take it. It is not in a good condition.

Please suggest the preliminary things that I have to do, before taking it to service center which is 8 km. away from my home.

    thanks in advance.

    Thread approved!

    1. Engine oil needs change ASAP!
    2. Tank would have sludge/rust.
    3. Carb would need work.
    4. Sprockets would be shot due to exposure to external elements.
    5. Tires may be useless depending upon how old they were 18 months ago.
    6. Electricals.
    7. Battery would probably be dead (permanently)
    8. Air filter would be clogged with gunk.

In short, hire an auto/tempo, load the bike and visit SVC.

Donot try to start if you havent already

Only start the bike after following the below steps (As far as i know). These steps are to be done if you intend to start the bike at home

Remove sparkplug and put some oil (any oil). clean the plug and fit it back. (DONT EVEN TRY TO KICKSTART THE BIKE WITHOUT THIS STEP)
Drain the petrol in Carburettor by drain bolt at bottom of carb.
Petrol tank may have formed rust and it should be cleaned/checked.
Takeout airfilter and see how is the condition of it. Clean it and air filter box if you can.
drain the engine oil completely and also tilt and hold the bike on both sides to remove max oil.
fill normal oil(low cost mineral oil) temporarily.
        Battery should be changed.

Having said above things, its better to gve it to a bike mechanic/service centre.

        Good luck bro

Thanks for all the replies. Really appreciated. One of my friend suggested doorstep delivery of housejoy.
