Either you can move on and never visit the erring SVC again, or you can take out some from your personal time and stand up for all 200NS owners as a whole and question the dealership. You can mail a nodal officer, hit them on social media (where it actually matters and hurts most).

P.S - in places as dusty as Bangalore, please replace air filter by 8-10k km.

Yea..I have switched to auto assembly A KTM service centre that also services Bajaj bikes .but they have advised me to complete my free services( till 10k kms) at the main branch only as they are worried as it'll cause warranty problems If the bike is serviced here.

Can you please enlighten me as to which is the most accurate way to test for mileage?

You can do free services or any other service at any authorised service centres, warranty won’t void.

ISSUE UPDATE

After threatening the popular Bajaj people with consumer complaint and talking to the sales head of Karnataka my bike was taken into service for 3 days saying they'll investigate the matter .

After 2 days they called me and asked me to test ride the bike with a 100 ML petrol with some mileage device and I did I got a mileage of 3.8 kms for 100 ML of fuel .
I again did a reserve to reserve check after normal riding ( without trying to get more mileage out of it normal riding with idling and occasionally speed while overtaking etc ) and I got a mileage of 35 KMPL .

When I asked Bajaj what was wrong the exact words they said was " the pin in the carburetor was defective we have replaced it " . They refused to divulge any more information . If anyone could please elaborate what exactly is that ' pin ' and what was wrong with the vehicle I would appreciate.

Overall finally my bike has got rid of all problems and now I can finally rude the bike with peace of mind

Even me facing issue with 2017 NS 200

Sudden surge of power
All of a sudden stops as if there is no fuel in the tank though it has around 1 litre of fuel
Gives jerks while riding or accelerating
Doesn't go beyond 125 in 6th gear with rider and with pillion doesn't go beyond 111kmph
Inconsistency in performance
Sometimes doesn't go beyond 95 kmph in 6th gear though there are no cross winds or uphill
Speed starts reducing as soon as I change gear from 5th to 6th
Misfiring issues

Anyone facing these issues please post here.
Met many 2017 NS 200 riders facing this issue but with no resolution

bit lengthy but will help you all in correlating the issues if any of the New NS 200 riders are facing and can be put across Bajaj to help us


Sequence of events



On the day of purchase- Bike didn’t crank even after 6 attempts , sounded like there was no fuel though it had ½ litre of fuel . Got it filled a litre more on request but still bike did not crank at first but later cranked post 6 unsuccessful attempts.

Used the best quality fuel from Shell, HP and BP from the reputed company owned fuel stations

No problems observed till 5000 rpm mark during running in period till 600 kms.

One fine day took the bike for a 70 km spin on the highway not throttling the bike above 6000 rpm mark and all of a sudden the bike started to give jerks often as if there was no petrol. (Fuel used: Shell normal)

Turned the fuel knob to reserve: The bike was still giving jerks but post 20 kms of ride the bike stopped completely as if there was no fuel at all. Checked fuel in the tank and there was quite a good amount of fuel left( probably 1.5 litres, since it was clearly visible in broad daylight)

Hence did not fill fuel, cranked the bike thrice and it started but the jerks were still pronounced

Tried with HP and BP fuels at factory owned outlets but the jerking issue was still there, and didn’t seem to go away.

Contacted Mr Vishal @ Amba Bajaj Madiwala and he asked me to take the bike to service centre for first service, normal service with oil and filter change was carried out, and when asked about the issue the service head denied any such problems and when I asked him to check on spot he gave the bike to one of his service technicians and the technician rode at full throttle and said the jerking issue was there only during sudden throttle inputs and then they revved the bike to the redline in a stand-alone mode (not a good way of treating the bike) to prove me that there were no jerks and denied any issue with the bike.

Rode the bike back home and the jerking issue was more pronounced this time. Contacted Mr Vishal again but he denied any such issues saying I was worrying too much.😒

Again checked with other fuel stations , took the bike to Karthik ASC in KR Puram and explained the sequence of events to Mr Nandeesh , the service head @ Karthik Bajaj. He checked with fuel lines, CDI and came up with the same old answer saying fuel lines were all good (I don’t know whether he actually checked since I wasn’t there but I believed him)

Took the bike back, and the next day while riding back from office to home , the engine started heating abnormally and fan started running every 2 minutes abruptly. Jerks were more pronounced this time ( Bike had done 3000 kms by this time ), and there was a fuel smell and when checked fuel was leaking @ the left side perimeter frame below the fuel tank.

Took the bike immediately to Mr Nandeesh @ Karthik Bajaj and he fixed it saying that the Fuel tank was not assembled properly leading to fuel leakage( ultimately deviating the fault towards Bajaj’s assembling and manufacturing quality )

Took the bike back and waited for 2nd service . Rode normally but the real drama Bagan now

Started pushing the bike above 6000 rpm since the bike had already completed 3.5k kms
The bike used to give jerks as normal but the jerks now started emerging from as low as 3000 rpm itself , being on any gear and while accelerating the bike used to hold up at 6000 rpm for a while even at full throttle and after around 10 secs all of a sudden the bike bursted with power and toque (quite dangerous) and bike propelled till 141 kmph at 9000 rpm but never used to go above that even when pushed harder. (No problems-thought that may be quite normal and thought that’s the max top end) but as far as know NS 200 can propel till 146 easily redlining till 10k rpm.(Tried BS3 version of NS200 which ultimately maxed out @ 155kmph on the same stretch where I tested my bike almost in same environmental conditions)


Then came the second service, I gave my bike again to Karthik Bajaj under the supervision of the service advisor Mr Nandeesh hoping this time , the issues related to bike would be sorted out but that wasn’t the case. Service was done but issues didn’t disappear, the bike still holding @ some rpms but this time it was inconsistent, it sometimes held @ 4K rpm sometimes 6k rpm with sudden burst of power after some 5-10 secs. Irritating sometimes. But soon bike started behaving weird. It stopped propelling above 90-95;8k rpm in 6th gear, whereas in 5th gear it was reaching 120-122(as per my experience with this bike in my earlier days of purchase it used to go till 127 in 5th gear; sometimes 136 if it was a down stretch that too with pillion on it)

The fun didn’t last long, I started watching YouTube videos to find a solution for this issue when I saw a 2017 NS 200 owner Mr Chetan spoke about the same issue and when contacted he gave the contact of the service head Mr Reddy@ Amba Bajaj Bellandur.
Mr Reddy agreed about the bike’s jerking issue and promised me of resolution, twice his service technician took the bike and later came up with a reason saying a flower petal was blocking the air in the air filter (weird isn’t it, bike does redline in 5th gear till 120 kmph @ 10.5 k rpm and @ the same time it doesn’t go above 95/7.5~8k rpm in 6th gear and it’s all because of a flower petal blocking air filter; ha ha nice joke-sorry for being sarcastic but this flower petal theorey doesn’t apply here) but still couldn’t sort the issue , bike jerking was brought down to some extent though)

Tired of no resolution even after visiting multiple times to SVC and ASC , meeting multiple service heads I wrote it to Bajaj customer care , asking for a resolution (mind, no where I complained about any service head) , I don’t know what Bajaj did, the very next day Mr Reddy ; the service head of Amba Bajaj Madiwala called, shouted at me for writing to Bajaj though I said no where I complained about him and later he took a signature on a statement which said “ customer is satisfied with the service” and said we can’t do much about this, contact Mr Praveen, the service Manager of Amba Bajaj. (The best ever manager ever met till date who takes customer’s issue as his own and tries to resolve it in the interest of customer) .

My third phase of visiting SVC’s begins.

Before meeting Mr Praveen , I had a long trip planned to Kanyakumari.
Took the bike again to Amba Bajaj Madiwala, to get the bike checked once before proceeding for a long trip, again complained to them about the the bike not propelling above 90~95 kmph, this time I also asked Mr Rahul, the sales Manager@Amba Bajaj Madiwala to help me in this, where he asked Mr Vishal, the service head to get the bike checked where he made his service technician to ride the bike for a while and find the issue.
Hollah! At last they found out and agreed to the issue that bike’s pickup was down post 5~6k rpm and agreed to get it checked after the ride.

Great! I was happy that atleast this time they agreed that I was right and the bike had the pick up issue as well as issue in propelling above 90 kmph in the sixth gear.
Mr Rahul said, it maybe due to carburettor clogging due to bad fuel and will get sorted out as you ride more (I controlled my anger since I had used good quality fuel from reputed fuel stations but still went with a hope that he may be right and issue might get resolved after riding few 100 kms continuously, started the next day to Kanyakumari(700 kms) , a great highway but unable to ride above 95kmph , trucks and 125 cc bikes overtaking me was making me feel erratic,tears rolled out of my eyes. (irritating-I didn’t purchase NS 200 to ride @ 90 kmph)

But a magic occurred after 150 kms, bike came up on its own, all of a sudden bike started propelling above 8k rpm till 136 kmph in the 6th gear (mind it was still running on the same fuel which was filled in bangalore-Shell petroleum), it was easily pulling even in up hills. Awesome.

Made a fuel stop, this time Fuel was from BP , no affect to the bikes performance. It was still propelling till 136-137kmph (it could do more but was still struck @ 136 but anyways I didn’t mind, ) rode happily to Kanyakumari with total of 3 fuel stops.

Next day started from Kanyakumari and while I met two more enthusiastic riders with their avenger 150. Started riding back to Bangalore but to my dismay my bike again started with the same issue and my bike was not propelling above 110 kmph even in 5th gear whereas avenger 150 was doing 115 kmph with 2 up. (Really frustrating).

I gave the avenger rider to ride my bike , even he complained he was not able to propell above 120 kmph whereas me riding on avenger 150 were able to cope up with NS 200 doing 115 kmph on avenger (really embarrassing).

We stopped @ a junction where they turned to Rameshwaram and I started to ride back to Bangalore and to my surprise bike totally freed up it self and started doing redline in all gears till 10.5 k rpm even in 6th gear topping @ 148kmph , it is when I came to know my NS’s true potential despite strong winds from the opposite side.

The bike was pulling till 148 in 6th gear even in uphills and I was happy and thought that Mr Rahul was right about the clogging part. But this happiness didn’t last long, the bike came to its same old behaviour after some 500kms.
Rode back home and took it to Mr Vishal@ Amba Bajaj Madiwala, and complained about the same, he laughed at me when I told him about this incident. But since the bike again came up with same issue of low pick up post 5k rpm he tried to sort the issue by cleaning fuel lines, changing carburettor under the supervision of Mr Praveen (by this time Mr Praveen was well aware of this issue and tried to help me) but all in vain, Bike still performed the same.
Even after 3rd service bike was still performing the same.

This time I took to Amba Bajaj Garuvebhavipalya, the main branch of Amba Bajaj and told the whole sequence of incidents (in the presence of Mr Vijay, the main sales person @ Amba Bajaj and a thoroughbred bike enthusiast who owns many performance Bajaj bikes as well as the champion rider of Bangalore Mr Itihas who recommended me for a diaphragm replacement which didn’t help) . Mr Praveen acknowledged it calmly and assured of resolution .
He and his team tried their best to get the issue resolved with lot of trials and errors in multiple visits but couldn’t resolve the issue.

It is then Mr Praveen helped me get in touch with the NS expert @ RV Bajaj Mr Govardhan who tried his best to get the issue sorted. After two visits, he could solve the backfiring, and the pickup issue to some extent .

Now the bike’s performance is so inconsistent, sometimes it reaches 150 kmph , in the same stretch again it doesn’t go beyond 123 kmph and with a pillion it doesn’t go beyond 111 kmph.

Many of my friends with their new NS have complained about this issue but unfortunately no one could find a solution about the same and I am desperately waiting for Bajaj to respond and help me in solving this issue.
