  • Suggestions needed to skip tax on second vehicle

    Hi all,

My name is Sharath and i am from Hyderabad.
I am planning to buy a new 2 wheeler here in Hyderabad.
We are four in our family and there are 3 bikes and a car registered on each of us.
I currently own a Hero Xtreme which is registered on my name.
Recently when i took price quotes for new bike the dealer's said that i should pay 13-15% of tax extra instead of 9% tax because i am going to own a second vehicle on my name. I already know this rule but all i want to know is whether we can escape from this rule legally or not.
Let me explain you my opinion and few points which would help us to discuss more briefly.

All the 3 bikes which my family has are registered at an RTO in my village which is 250kms far away from Hyderabad. Only the car we have is registered with Hyderabad RTA.

I have seen some posts in online that if i am going to register my new bike in Hyderabad then there will be no problem because the RTA is from different city. But i think this is wrong. The transport department servers are centralized and no matter at which RTA you register in a state the database will show my name with the other RTA also.
    Am i correct?
One more point i would like to discuss is regarding my name. Mine is a very long name.... Ch Sharath Chandra Phani Raja Gopal....
This is what i have on my aadhaar card and my educational certificates but the name on my driving licence and voter ID card is..... Ch Sp Raja Gopal
My Hero Xtreme RC card has " Ch Sp Raja Gopal" printed on it and i dont remember whether i have used my aadhaar card for registration purpose in 2013 when i bought the Hero Xtreme.
So the point is now can i buy a bike and use my Aadhaar or PAN Card with a name of Ch Sharath Chandra instead of Raja Gopal?
Will the RTA will be able to find out that i already have a bike registered on my name?

The second and the only option i have is to transfer the ownership of my current bike to some other person and i should get my new bike. And that some other person is no one but i need to get a trusted person who can never cheat me after transferring the bike onto his name....

I also want to know how the RTA guys will know that a vehicle is already registered on a person name?
Lets say i will say to the bike dealer that i dont have any bike registered on my name.... On the day of registration if the RTA will know that i am owing a second vehicle what will be the consequences for me? Do i need to pay that 5% of extra tax at that time?

If anyone has faced the same issue or anyone has experience in skipping the additional tax on second vehicle please do comment on this...
I hope most of us have already faced this situation...
Lets share your answers with guys who are going to face the same like me in future............

I think the 2% life tax is now removed? Please refer to this link: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/60716571.cms

(But its September 2017 link, can't be sure if it has changed in the meantime, although its just 5 months old)

If its still applicable, you may get some useful suggestions here:- https://www.carwale.com/forums/24800...hyderabad.html

Better to get it transferred to someone from your family. If caught in a legal tussle/ accidet ever, it gets more complicated if the owner and rider belong to different families.

      Hi all,

Today i inquired with one of my friend.
He said me to transfer the current bike i own to any of my family person and get a new bike on my name.
He said that there is no need of paying any extra tax if you are buying a used vehicle. The additional tax comes into the picture only when you already own a first hand vehicle and going to get another new vehicle on your name.
You can buy N number of new vehicles on your name but make sure there is no single vehicle on your name before getting a new bike.
I hope this information would help others too.

      Thanks!
