KTM Duke 200 2013 speedometer issue
I've been having the zero speed on console issue for quite some time now, for about two years plus now. Other than the zero, there are no other problems with the bike, it charges properly, everything else works. SVC said it's a console malfunction and it needs to be replaced, but I don't think that's the issue. When I turn off the headlights, it works, but once I turn it on, speed is displayed as zero, shows actual speed at times though. I am running on my third stator coil, all replaced in warranty.
If anyone has any solution, please do share. It's been annoying me for quite sometime. -

first check the stator and the rr. get the voltages and resistances tested.Originally posted by leorcid View PostI've been having the zero speed on console issue for quite some time now, for about two years plus now. have you ever changed the speedo sensor. change that and check.
i've had my d200 once show erratic speeds, never the dreaded zero symptom and changing the speedo sensor (under warranty) fixed it. a 10 minute job and normally costs around 400rs iirc.
while you are at it, try and inspect the wiring for any damage or shorts.. sometimes the bunch of wires near the steering stem (right side, next to the coolant tank) tend to lose their protective cover and rub against the frame and lose their insulation/short.
Never heard about this, except for the older ones where a stator coil replacement was the solution. the meter is fed by the sensor (which is located on the fork leg), unless maybe the diameter of the disc (not sure if the sensor picks up speed from disc rotor) or wheel changes the speedo accuracy should remain same.Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostTopic Approved.
This is a common problem. Even Duke 390 owners face this. Sadly, I'm myself looking for a decent solution to this.
For now, meter replacement seems to be the only working solution, but that too has to be carefully done because some meters under-show the speeds after replacement, due to difference in model years.

Re: KTM Duke 200 2013 speedometer issue
@gharika @Samarth 619 a small update from my end and maybe a fix.
i ended up with the same issue
on my 2014, D200. Speedo stays at 0 until around 28kmph and then comes to life, and happened more often when the headlight was on and on low beam.. then it started happening even with the headlight off. i.e. it wasn't showing speeds until around 30kmph most of the time.
the only change before this started happening was that the battery was replaced circa Dec 2018 iirc (stock exide to amaron).. and the bike ran well without this issue for around 3 months and 2500km on the amaron battery. then the bike was sparingly used (Sitting unused for couple of weeks at a stretch) and i noticed this issue crop up during my short city commutes.
i thought it might be the stator issue, but the battery never died out and the readings off the multimeter were ok. i left it at that and continued to use the bike. the bike was sparingly used since march/april/may (most of april never used, a couple of km in may).. and it always fired up on the first thumb of the starter.
this behavior along with my previous testing of voltages led me to rule to charging related issues (but i am still not 100% convinced)
then i thought maybe the speedo sensor or the contacts at the connectors might be causing wrong erratic readings.. and i had come across a troubleshooting step from the ktm manual that showing 0 on the speed could be due to bad contacts/corrosion.
i had a bottle of carb/throttle cleaner with me, and i decided to use that liberally to see what happens... here is what I did.
Sprayed the cleaner generously on the bolts that hold the disc and the disc itself (i guess the sensor takes the reading off the bolts as the wheel spins) and wiped them clean.
sprayed a bit of cleaner on the sensor at the front wheel.
removed the headlight to access the speedo sensor connector, disconnected it.. sprayed it down too, reconnected.
you could also disconnect the speedo console connector and the ecu connector and spray clean them out (i was short on time and lazy so skipped them)
under the rear seat disconnected the molex connector (i use the hazard flasher module, and sprayed it down too).. reconnected ( the 0 issue happened irrespective of the hazard module or the stock connector)
sprayed clean the battery terminals too.
squirted some of the cleaner thru the indicator switch area and thru the ignition key hole.
Added around 25 ml of system g additive to half a tank of fuel (bike was unused for almost a month now sitting with around 2 liters of fuel.. so tanked up another couple of liters and added a generous dose of system g).. I was heading out on a 200km ride the next morning.
The next morning took the bike out for a ride, it still exhibited the 0 error for the first few km.. and then it started working normally !
Been 24 hours now, and it still is working normally.
I don't know if what I did fixed the issue or it was one of the tantrums of the typical ktm
Will let you guys know if this issue reoccurs.

Re: KTM Duke 200 2013 speedometer issue
Thanks s1d, I forgot to update the resolution for my problem. It was a loose electric connection for one of my accessories light. Seems like if there is erratic load change on the electrics, the ECU messes up with sensitive digital readings from the sensors. Tightening the connection fixed it for me.Originally posted by s1d View Post@gharika @Samarth 619 a small update from my end and maybe a fix.
