  • Yamaha R15 V2.0 - Engine too ruff and sluggish- should I go for carbon deposit cleaning?

Hi guys.... In the month of May, 2017 I bought a Yamaha R15 V2.0 for seconds which has ran 13k kms till that time and has been lying idle for almost an year before I bought it. In the initial days the bike felt ok but not what i thought it would feel like. Months passed and I could clearly tell from all those months that there's something wrong with the bike and eventually I took the bike to Yamaha service centre, there those guys checked and instead of solving my problem they did all the other things like setting my handle position right, servicing the bike and charged me a whopping amount of 7k while saying the bike was totally fine. After that for one week the bike felt butter smooth but returned back to it's original state leaving me in a depressed state once again. 4 months passed since then, now I could clearly see that not only the bike became more sluggish but also the pick up has decreased and the engine has become too ruff where I can no longer enjoy my rides without any disappointment. It just doesn't feel like riding an R15. (Recently I have changed the engine oil to motul 5100 15w50 and refilled the radiator also with motul product, still I see no difference). Tired of this, I started reading forums and reviews and I found a comment/review where it was stated that for these conditions one should go for carbon deposit cleaning as the bike had left intact for an year. So I want you guys to help me whether I should go for carbon deposit cleaning or is there any other solution to it?

(So instead of revving my heart, my bike has been weakening it. But my love for my bike keeps on thinking about it and made me come here.)

Thank you guys and sorry for my big description........ [emoji120] [emoji120] [emoji120] [emoji120]

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

its a liquid cooled , fuel injected bike... carbon deposits not happening for just 13k.
      whats the exact issue ????

      vibes?
      sluggish ?
      choking feeling ?

was the fuel filter and air filter inspected and changed ?
hows the oil condition now ? maybe the old owner did not change oil on time.
whats the chain set situation. maybe the chain rings have dried up for not being in use and was not cared for ?
maybe the injectors are getting clogged ? - use Adon-p else system G for 2 tank cycles.

First of all thanks for your reply man.....

The exact issue is i don't feel the smoothness which i feel in my friends bike (he has the same bike also) whenever i ride my bike for more than 30 min. If i let my bike rest for a few hours (say 4+ hours) it rides smoothly(not that great) for sometime like 20 min and after that it gets ruff and it increases as i ride it more and gives me hard ruff sound like there was some sand in the engine.

last time when i went to yamaha service centre, they couldnt do anything but rob me of my money. But one thing i still wonder about is that after i got my bike serviced at YSC, the bike felt butter smooth for 1 week and then it degraded after that.

        Vibrations:
i don't feel any vibrations while riding the bike.

        Chain:
Just now I took my bike for a ride on the highway and to my shocking, it easily reached 120 kph. It was a 40min drive and It felt a lot smoother all the way but there's something wrong with the chain it seems.

lately the chain has become loose and its making some noice. I always oil my chain in regular intervals. But its been some time since i have oiled it.

The chain set hasnt been changed since the bike was bought, should i change the whole chain set (i mean including chain sprockets)?

        Odometer reading:
it stands at 23k as of now

        Air filter:
I have checked the air filter there was nothing wrong with it, it is still fresh.

        Fuel filter:
i will check the fuel filter and injectors condition tomorrow and will post about it.

        Engine oil:
Ever since i bought the bike, i have always changed the engine oil for every 2000 kms. I have always used yamalube but recently changed to motul 15w50 and i have also refilled the coolant with motul motocool.

        fuel additives:
I have ordered system G and will give it a try once I got my hands on it.

        Suggestions from mechanics:
When i have shown my bike to a mechanic (my dads regular one) he said there's nothing wrong with clutch plates and suggested me to go for carbon deposit cleaning (Should i get the clutch plates inspected once?)

In simple terms, the bike feels a lot smoother in long drives especially on highways when compared to street rides which are filled with sluggish and ruff engine noices.

So is there any solution to make my bike smooth just like my friends bike?

        Please help me bro

        Thank you

Mate from the symptoms you described, there is nothing I can point to which is 'Wrong' with your bike so to speak.

Also Carbon Deposit cleaning won't make any difference, especially on a fuel injected bike that has less than 30-40K KMs. So you can avoid that altogether.

If there was a problem with the engine, your bike won't feel refined on highways or neither would it do 120 (not legal to over-speed anyways)

I can think below enlisted parts/areas which could cause vibrations/roughness in your case, so get it inspected:
            • Chain/Sprocket wear and tightness within specifications
            • Wheel bearings/rubber bushings inside the wheel hubs (You'll have to get the tyres taken off at a SVC/Good tire workshop to get this inspected
            • Uneven tire wear/misaligned or unbalanced tires (Again you'll have to take your bike to a reputed tire shop. Not the local puncture repair guy.
            • Last part I would suspect is the clutch bell/housing whatever your mechanic calls it. If your bike is under warranty, you can raise an issue with Yamaha by dropping them an email and visiting another SVC with better customer service.

If all else fails, then maybe you received a lemon from Yamaha, gonna have to suck it up and live with that.

All the best and ride safe!
