  • Booked the BMW G310GS from Lutyens Motorrad, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi - need tips on modifications

So I recently booked the BMW G310GS at New Delhi. The hefty amount of Rs.50000 (Hefty for me) is fully refundable and we have a time window of 20 days to decide whether to go forward and actually buy the bike or withdraw from said activity provided we are off put by the price announcement. I am eagerly waiting for the price announcement and I have almost decided that I will be sticking with my buying decision. However a few things worry me.

This bike although being from BMW fame, doesn't come with LED Headlights (Big Turn Off), windscreen is as good as none, and I have heard(I am not sure about this) the handle switches don't illuminate when the lights are turned on (Mega Turn Off). I had asked the guy at the showroom about this one, he seemed to have no idea because the product isn't still there and that eliminates the possibility of a much required test ride.

Let's say I don't give in to the announcement of KTM's adventure 390 launching early next year and I stick to the BMW, I have the following questions:

    1. From where do I procure a LED headlight, handleguard and windscreen(possibly from abroad which I can trust as Indian aftermarket accessories will take time to get stuff for this niche bike)?
    2. Lets say the rumours of switches on the handle not illuminating are true (God Forbid), where do I take it in New Delhi to get it tended to? (I do a lot of night riding and this is not a deal breaker but I really hope what I hear is not true)

Lot of ppl waiting for price announcement. assuming your die hard fan of BMW [irrespective of price] then.

NO , it don't have LED headlight, and you can't fit aftermarket one , until its warranty is over. and No , bike don't have backlight switches [as far as i seen on youtube] and i guess its only for bajaj/ktm which comes with these [guess they have patent on this].

me little disappointed by one of youtube review , where they saying it has lot of vibrations . let's hope they price it well

I saw that youtube video too. But there are tons of others where they say, the sweet spot is 100-110 kph cruising with negligible vibrations.
P.S. I hate vibrations but this is a single cylinder bike so can't expect too much out of it.

The engine is not too revv happy from what I have discerned after a whole lot of reviews right left center. Reddit Users have said positive things about the bike.
I just wish BMW calls us for a test ride, especially the ones who have booked the bike. Backlight switches are not a dealbreaker but definitely a turnoff for me.

I have also read in a review where the author actually pens down his thoughts of craving the LED Headlight and complains about the Stock Halogen H4 not being able to do any justice to illumination.

Congratulations on your booking, I have made mine with KUN in Chennai.
I am in the same boat as you.
Apart from the accessories/ upgrades you mentioned, I am very keen on engine and tank guard along with a bash plate (As the default one is made up of plastic), Hand guards and spoke wheels.

I am already in touch with few manufactures (out of my curiosity) but he products are turning out to be too expensive because of the transportation and import duties.
I hope we get some domestic high quality alternatives pretty soon.

PS: I am in though of designing and manufacturing the above mentioned accessories on my own.

Hey, congratulations to you too. I have now decided that I won't be fitting in the LED headlight(unless my warranty's over or aftermarket comes up with a really good replacement). Instead, I am gonna fit extra LEDs to do the illumination for me for which I will be needing a crash guard.

Not thinking of doing too much offroad on this so I will probably not need the bash plate. Hand guards definitely, at least to save the levers from fall. Spoke wheels no. Again not doing off roading on this.

If you do end up designing and manufacturing something, please do ping me.

              Cheers mate \m/

Now the on road price being 4.12Lakh (Chennai), I am seriously confused.
Hope test ride this week will help me make a choice.

The on road price in Delhi will be around 4.7L if I take the on road assistance into account (which anyone sensible should definitely opt for as we don't have too many service centres).
I got an image from Rushlane which I don't think is a very credible source because they have a bad history. The image is from BMW Motorrad Bavaria Pune. Attached.

I am a hell lot confused too and already called my showroom asking for the refund procedure.

In my honest opinion, this is bad pricing considering a fierce competition coming in early next year in the form of KTM Adv 390. If the normal pricing itself is 4.7L on road, expect accessories fitting etc. costing another 30k plus easily pitting this bike into 5Ls.

I don't know. Even a test ride won't be able to convince me now I guess. They ruined it for me.

your not the only person, i know many including myself postponed the Adv bike purchase after this stupid pricing, now till Feb need to wait for KTM 390adv.
hell no way anyone wants to pay 4.2L for single cylinder bike with not much features ,be it bmw or ducati when competitors giving more for less.
someone mentioned here correctly , the ppl who opt for GS are bikers who make decision with brains than heart.
