  • open chain of p200 & p220 sounds a lot..

    i own a P200...21 months old...covered around 23000 kms...
its chain sounds a lot on normal cruising... i got my chain-sproket changed at 16000 kms 9 months ago... i usually get a regular service done every month.. during service they usually oil the chain with mobil... i live in howrah, comparatively a more dusty place... consequently it catches more dirt and forms a thick coating on the chain... i observed that due to this the chain doesnt move freely...

any suggestion about how top oil the chain or is there any specific kind of oil that i could use..???

what does topping up oil have to do with chain noise ? .
Open chains need maintenance and you gotta clean them them kerosene every 600-750 kms and then lube with sae 90 oil .

dont use kerosene on O-ring chain ... it will be damaged ... even if u use it .. wash it up with some detergent after some minutes .. then lubricate it ..

Use kerosene to remove the grit off the chain first. Then use engine oil to lubricate it properly. To know more, get here...

Kerosene is to be used on o-rings and even hayabusas and R1,s manual recommend it .

Mr. Dilip Bam ehh..!! I wont be surprised if he recommends some TVS cleaner instead of kerosene, then maybe lube it with a TVS brand lubricant. If nothing works, replace the bike with any TVS brand bike, according to the site a TVS Victor is better than a 200/220 because the headlight throw is measured with a "very long tape" and hence the bike is safer

That site does have some harmful info. Use it at your own discretion.

                  Back to the topic:

As far as the chain is concerned, you can clean it and then use a 90W oil to lube it or use Pennzoil (?) 140W. I find it pretty good, costs abt 90/-.
If the place is too dusty avoid using grease, it will trap the dust.
Most good service centers have a machine specially for cleaning the chain, I forget what its called. Get it cleaned there maybe once every 2-3 months or earlier depending on your use. Also recommend cleaning the front sprocket housing once a month or more. It traps a lot of muck and dust.
