  • Suzuki GS150R Engine problem, need a good mechanic in pune

    Hello friends,
I'm new to xbhp forum. I have a suzuki GS 150R, 7 years old and has done about 45000 kms. Lately my engine is making some ticking noise and also other noises, if i go at higher speed (60-70 kmph). But I have not observed any visible exhaust smoke. Also my engine oil levels drop about 200ml for every 1000kms. Noise problems are more observed after 10 to 15 mins of riding. I had visited ASSC (Shiv suzuki, Nigdi) pertaining to this issue, they told me that it would cost about 18 to 20k to do anything related to engine and once if they open the engine, all major parts in the engine will be replaced, irrespective of the problem whether it is needed or not. But I'm suspecting only exhaust valve overheating or blown piston rings. I have following questions regarding this.
    1. Please suggest me some good mechanic/SC in pune (i stay at nigdi, pimpri-chinchwad area, recently shifted from Bangalore) for this issue.
    2. Can I get my complete engine replaced with a new suzuki GS150R engine....? what is the approximate cost of the engine..?
    3. Can there be any other issues other that valve over heating, blown piston ring.....?.

    Thank you guys

      Hi Suhasvr92,
Is there any drop in pickup?
If you see visible white smoke then probably the piston rings would have worn out.
The head costs 2300 and piston set (pistin ring, o ring and seal set) will be less than 500

I'm sorry mate if I cannot be more specific for that area. I visit Wakad on weekends coming from Hadapsar side. [emoji16]
Google Maps can actually help a lot here. Type and search any of these landmarks and you should be able to find it.

I face similar issue with my pulsar and fixed it recently
              The reasons might be
              1.Bore
              2.connecting rod
              3.broken piston rings
              4.timing chain
It could be either one of these though I'm not sure about what's exactly causing this sounds

Bro i think you should keep your money ready for buying following pars -
                .Block piston set
                .clutch plate
                .new valve set.
                .timing chain
                .tensioner
And go to your local machanic with this parts for replacement some another parts might have to replace but i think your bike will be ready to run about 70k to 1 lac km and engine will be run like new bike if you ride decently. and pls don't go for reboring this will cost you 2000-3000 rs less than putting new parts but you will have to done this procedure after 30000-40000 km again.
So search for the price list of that parts because i have no idea about the parts prices of gs150R

Re: Suzuki GS150R Engine problem, need a good mechanic in pune

Thank you guys for your advises,

I visited Shiv Suzuki, chinchwad area regarding this issue. On opening engine, we found that there were too many scratches on the cylinder block, that explains oil consumption. Apart from this my crankshaft bearing had worn out, which was making some tic tic noise and top of my piston was completely covered by around 5mm of carbon deposit, So on service manager's advice, I replaced piston, cylinder block, timing chain, rocker arm, crankshaft with bearing all amounting to R.s 9000 (thanks to their very less labor charges around R.s 1000), but while assembling engine, mechanic noticed some erosion of material in exhaust valve seating area of cylinder head. I had to replace cylinder head too, my new total was now R.s 13000. Since my bike was already extinct, extinct bike's cylinder head was even more extinct , I had to wait for 10 days to get cylinder head. Finally I got carb cleaned and bike was ready within next 2 days. Post engine work, bike is really smooth returns very good fuel economy (around 55+), but after running for an hour or 2, it starts making metal hitting noise particularly at 4000 rpm, noise disappears at other engine rpm. I approached Shiv suzuki regarding this, they told me that due to decrease compression ratio (no carbon deposits), engine is knocking and it would gradually reduce once parts get mated properly. After that, I have driven around 5000 kms, slowly the noise is getting reduced and there is no oil consumption now . I have attached some images of engine.

                    That's nice to hear bro.
GS 150R was a very sweet bike and it remains one of the best Suzuki bikes we have seen here. The market has become aggressive so Gixxer had to come.
150cc, 6 speed gearbox with gear indicator, sweet seat and compliant suspension.
I guess we replied a bit late but nice to see the GS coming back to life again.
Wish you thousands of more happy kms.
                    Regards,
