  • 2016 KTM Duke 390 Coolant Disappearing?

I purchased a used 2016 Duke 390 about a month back. It's a very well maintained and I considered it a worthy replacement for my CBR250R.
On the day of purchase, I noticed there was no coolant in the reservoir, the owner said the service is due in the next 100kms.
For the peace of mind, I also checked the engine oil color and made sure it wasn't mixed or if there's any visible leakage in the lines. It was all good.

The bike was given to the KTM ASC on the same day for the periodic service and asked them to make sure there's nothing wrong with the coolant system, again for the peace of mind. The bike came home after three days.

I use my Dominar and the 390 occasionally for the office commute which is a good 10Km from my home.
Then I noticed the 390 coolant levels are reducing rather quickly. Coolant level already went below the minimum level and I had to top up the coolant within two weeks after the service, which is a bit worrying even though the commute is in bumper to bumper traffic.

Again visited the KTM ASC and asked them to check for any leaks, after two days they returned the bike and assured there are no leaks in the line, oil viscosity is fine and it's common problem for the 390.

It's now a week after the previous KTM ASC visit and the coolant level already reached the minimum level. Is this normal? Or is it how it's supposed to be? Can any 390 owners who are using it in a comparable situation shed some light on this?

    Topic Approved.

I have a 2013 Duke 390, the very first lot and the very first bike of my city.

No, its not a normal situation, although I might add that a lot of Duke owners are facing this and related problems.
Mine hasn't seen a refill ever, and I have a coolant pack lying with me just in case...

Maybe the coolant is leaking somewhere, you'll have to get the radiator and all checked well...

Also try finding out if the coolant disappears only while riding, on even when its parked... Stop riding it for some time, and let us know if the coolant goes down or not.

Thank you for responding, the bike has not been moved for the last three days and I can see the coolant level did not change. I suspect it's reducing on while riding.
