  • Query about Teflon and Stickers

I'm getting a fresh coat of teflon for my Fazer tomorrow with the 4th free servicing. I will also be getting the front number plate removed from the mirrors and will be using a sticker on the front fender/mudguard instead.

My question was, should I get the sticker done before or after the service? How do stickers affect the quality of the teflon coat finish? Will the wax they use on the bike after servicing affect how long the sticker will stay on?

Thanks in advance for any inputs guys.

You could have browsed this forum before opting for the so called teflon treatment. It's like somebody pumping normal air into a patient's lungs and telling everybody that he is giving him pure oxygen!
That teflon treatment is nothing but a quick money making gimmick. They use a wax polish which has got 2-3% of teflon in it. There is literally no difference to the overall paint quality, durability, scratches or scratch resistance. Even if they keep rubbing that polish every week on your bike for 10 years, it wont' change anything. There are professional paint treatment workshops which provide genuine 3M teflon coating service but are quite expensive.

Anyways regarding your query, first wash the front fender with detergent, then with rubbing alcohol then put the stickers on it and THEN ONLY give the bike for servicing. If you try to stick the stickers after the so-called teflon polishing, the stickers won't stick properly because of the wax polish. Stickers generally don't affect the paint surface, there are multiple paint layers with a protective clear-coat on top of it. Obviously, if you try abrasive methods to peel the stickers later on or use harsh chemicals (like paint thinner, nail polish remover) then the paint will suffer.

First google to understand what Teflon coating process involves. Teflon coat involves treating metal parts to anti corrosion or rust by spraying it onto the metal and heat treating it if required. Like your non stick pan or the car and bike metal frame dipped in the teflon bath and dried in a heater chamber. But all you are getting done is a wax polish.
