  • Honda Hornet 160R chain sprocket

    Hi guys,

I would like to know how long does Hornet 160R's chain sprocket lasts. I rode 13000 kms on mine and the chain started to get loose again and again. Also, please tell me the price of original Hornet 160R chain sprocket.

Afaik,it shouldn't have gone bad as 13000kms are nothing even if you maintained it badly,I suggest you watch some videos regarding properly cleaning and lubing your chain with the right products like chain cleaning brush, motul chain cleaner and motul chain lube, after doing it get the chain slack adjusted by some local trustworthy and experienced mechanic in your area as mechanics at the service centers are usually assholes who won't carry out the work to your satisfaction.

Well,it shouldn't be like it..Honda's and Yamaha's parts are way too superior when it comes to reliability as compared to ktms or Enfield's..Still when you'll visit a mechanic he will tell you if you need to change your sprocket..Do check youtube for chain maintenance videos it will be easier for you as your bike comes pre installed with center stand unlike our cbr's.[emoji21]

Your Hornet has sealed or conventional chain ? See recent posts in ownership thread. Open conventional chain will wear out fast. Change to o-ring kit ASAP.

This is a common issue with hornet. No proper solution, only thing you can do is clean it and adjust the slackness. Found this info during researching for a new bike purchase.

Gowthamh, there is no specified lifetime of sprocket for any motorcycle. It largely depends on riding conditions and owner's maintenance schedules. You can read through ownership thread of Hornet which would give you logical answers.

Please post pics of your vehicle's sprocket (front and rear) and axle nuts (left and right). We might be able to help you.

I am also facing the same issue. I gave my bike for service, this is the first paid service and I am using the bike for 1 year and 4 months and I rode only 9100 km.
I got a call from service center saying that I need to change chain spocket, air filter and tensinor.
I felt shocked after he said that chain spocket is not at all usable, he is insisting me to change the chain spocket. He also said that he could not fit the chain tightly in the given axle margin, I really wonder how come chain spocket worn out so fast? Do I really need to change it. Please let me know about it.
I really do not know if he is telling truth or trying to loot money from me.

And also please let me know what is tensinor? He said it is related to some engine sound. One of my friends who gave bike in the same service centre was asked to change this. After changing it, he felt some thing bad in engine so I straight away rejected it.

Hi mate, can you post pics of rear and front sprockets and axel nut (l/r) pics? This can give fair idea.

Below are the points to notice...

                      1. Axle bolt may reached its end point
                      2. Seems, you do some harsh ride/else very frequent gear change.
                      3. You can easily notice whether you are supposed to change chain sprocket or not -- check whether chain is too loose , and if axle bolt is in a position of no longer able to tight it, then it's time to replace the chain sprocket with a new one.
