  • Got a new R15 V3! but along with wrist and palm aches

    Hi friends,
I just purchased a new R15 V3 and I must say I love everything about it except the ache it gives me. I get pain in upper back, neck amd shoulders which is bearable but I got serious pain in my palm and some in wrist after riding for 3 hours specially in the stop go traffic of bangalore. I have adjusted my riding posture as recommended where you hold the tank with your thighs and keep your arms loose which works well while accelerating and at constant speed but not in stop go traffic and braking. Does the body adjusts to these pains or do I have to bear it always?
By the way I dont ride daily. I bought it just for occasional riding, here and there and weekend trips under 200 km. Yes, this is my first sporty bike. I only rode pulsars and heros before. I love the thrill of riding it but the pain scares me off.

    thanks.

    Thread approved.
First of all, congratulations on the new baby R. It is a phenomenal little machine.
Now, in my opinion, the ache that accompanies riding a bike with a posture that extreme is pretty much inevitable.
Also, you mentioned that you haven't ridden a bike like this before so that is also amplifying the problem.
But it will mellow down once you have spent some time with and you get used to it.
Adaptability has allowed us to survive much worse than the seating position of an R15 V3 I reckon.
    Ride safe. Ride hard.

And keep yourself fit and flexible. As Slip discs are pretty much a trend among fellas residing in metro. Not to mention that a track bike is not the best tool for negotiating humongous traffic of bangalore.

Re: Got a new R15 V3! but along with wrist and palm aches

As an owner of a 4.5 year old V2, I would say that give it time and spend more time on saddle. The pains will become less and less and in a few months, on an open road you will totally forget about the pains and aches.

However I have ben in Bangalore traffic and travelled from whitefield to electronic city (the nightmare ride) 5 days a week to office, and no matter how much you get used to the R15, you will have aches in an hour long traffic jam. I once travelled the whole distance of about 30 kms on first gear with radiator fan buzzing for the whole 3 hours. At the end my left hand was transformed into a claw .

As you spend more time on the saddle, you will realize that gripping the tank with thighs and letting hands loose with light grip on the handle bars don't really work as advertised. You see, thighs are also muscles, just like your arms and shoulders; and just like your arms and shoulders, they get tired soon and start to ache. So you will have to keep switching between putting the load on your hands and shoulders while resting the thighs and vice versa. I do weekend rides of about 400 kms very occasionally and this cycle of distributing the load every few minutes have served me well for the past 4.5 years.

Of course it goes without saying that being physically fit and active helps lot. I'm a skinny guy weighing about 50kgs, but I'm really fit. You don't have to join the gym or do anything special, but a few minutes of core strengthening exercises will help a great deal. Search youtube for 10 minute abs workout and do at least 1 set once a day. I started a while back and now I do two sets 2 times a day. And if you are a skinny guy like me, an added bonus is abs. Not proper well defined ones, I'm too lazy to take proper proteins and often miss my breakfast, But faint lines of abs are good enough, much better than plain flat tummy.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Do watch Twist of the Wrist by Keith Code, he goes into detail about setting yourself on a motorcycle.

And in traffic stick to initial gears and don't be afraid to rev her if required.
