What would be the ideal time to get those Nitrox replaced??
I've got problem with the suspension. My mech reconditioned the front ones & they felt a lot better but for Rear he told not to touch till they feel OK as nothin much could be done to them. I've 24k on my odo. Should I go for a replacement?

No need for a replacement unless it's ridden on very bad roads.

To test your shocks, try to exert force on the seat and check for the downward movement.

I have replaced with escorts oil damped shocks for Rs 850 for a pair. I feel Nitrox is not at all good after 10K kms. The shock absorber is same as V1 pulsar. The ride is stiff but certainly not at all bad.

But how do you come to know if there is nitrogen in the nitrox canister ? the downward movement is very vague as the suspensions too give a downward movement

How can we check whether nitrox needs replacement??I didn't get by that 'downward movement' theory...please help.

If they need servicing, they will let the rider know a long time before any failure occurs. A good rider always watches out for these signs. A good rider can even predict when a bike needs oil change by hearing the engine sound. And even if you follow the manual to the T but ignore the signs the bike gives, it may fail. So, best way is to listen to what your bike is saying.
              very well said.

regarding nitrox shock absorbers, those that came upto UG3, have provision of refilling the gas.

              but-
              • the fact that pressure inside is reduced means that seal is leaking, so even if you refill it, it will not hold pressure.
              • and it is very difficult to fill it by a hand operated pump, takes lot of effort and i have not seen a motor operated pump at any service station till date.
              • even if you manage to refill it. you have filled it with air and not nitrogen, though air is mainly nitrogen, still its different.
              • it won't hold pressure for long.
              • another thing is- after experiencing all the above last time i decided to fit the nitrox shock-ups that started coming with UG4 onwards. these are non-refillable type.
              • but on a lame advise of mechanic did not increase the preload and left it at softest setting. obviously most of the load was on gas and not on spring, so went kaput in six months. lesson learnt- never keep it at softest setting. let the spring do its job and let the gas assist it.

Nitrogen filled shocks seem to loose their dampening very early compared to conventional shocks. My Hunk's shocks have become really hard at 23k on odo(may be it would've clocked close to 30k, I am the second owner of it).
Also there are many reports from Pulsar users on the same !

IMHO, refilling gas, reconditioning shocks are waste of money and time, best of option would be to replace them.

Prince have you changed the shocks of your UG3 to that of UG4's?
Have you gained any rear height due to this?
Can you tell me if there is a difference in the length of the shocks from the two configurations, UG3 and UG4?

Well I reconditioned my rear shocks of discover 135 (similar shocks to pulsar ug3), it's been 5k since i've done it and it seems to be ok.. Will replace the shocks next time.

                      Re: Reconditioning the Nitrox shocks

Just found this thread.... exactly what I was looking for.
The whole thread, mostly discuss the Cons of Gas Shocker...... wondering why dont someone suggest to replace with Conventional Hydrolic Spring Shocker?

I am using GS150R. The shocks has gone bad in 2.5 years (29K km).
                      Options I have :

                      a) Recondition/Repair the Shocks - which will cost around 400x2=800/- approx (including hydrolic oil drain & refill with Oil seals change, Refill Gas & Straighten the rods - if bent.
                      b) Switch Over to a new pair. For this I will prefer a Shocker set of LS135 (reasons P150s Shockers are smaller than GS by approx 1.5 inch, but the LS Shocker Size matches with GS, The Black Shockers looks better than the whicte ones of GS, LS135's Shocker Set costs around 1650/- vs. that GS shocker set costing 3600/-)
                      c) Will the HH ZMA's/Xtremes red Shocker (old one - not the Gas Filled new) match the Length? If yes - this is the best option as it will be much cheeper than Gas Shocker. It will also last much longer than Gas Shockers.

What do you say guys? BTW what is the length & cost of HH ZMA's/Xtremes red Shocker?

I too felt the GAS shocks give up early.
My Hunk's GRS shocks, though not leaking, have become hard after 30k kms.
There is hardly any action when riding solo.
Between what is issue with your shocks, they started leaking oil or ride quality reduced?

P135 shocks won't be a good idea as P135 is a very light bike weighing around 125Kg, where as GS weighs around 145 Kg. The ride and handling will be affected a lot.
The best option is GS shocks itself, otherwise shocks of a bike weighing close to GS. You can think of P150, Xtreme(conventional shocks).

can you/anyone share the tools and method for filling Nitrogen in rear shocks(Endurance Nitrox @ P200 DTSi)
I have searched a lot in Pune to get my shocks refilled but couldn't find any so now I am thinking of going DIY.
                          Pls help asap.

Did you read the manual i posted?
Do you have the tools/equipment to do it?

It's not like you place the manual in front of the bike, break a coconut, run over a couple of limes.. and it's fixed
Try and get a scrap shock absorber and do your trials on it.

IIRC a set of these gas shocks used to cost around 1600rs 8 yrs ago, how much are they now?
