Front Disc heating (Gixxer 155)
My bike's front disc is heating up too much but the disc pads seem to be ok to me. What could be the other reason?

Re: Front Disc heating (Gixxer 155)
Disc pads not retracting back so friction between them and disc making disk heatup, you should service the disc brake calliper also check the brake oil, replace if necessaryOriginally posted by 111diablo111 View PostMy bike's front disc is heating up too much but the disc pads seem to be ok to me. Re: Front Disc heating (Gixxer 155)
I don't think it was the culprit but it is good that he replaced it. The culprit might have been a blocked relief hole in the master cylinder due to dirty brake fluid. The process of bleeding out old fluid and adding new must have cleared the relief hole.Originally posted by Zapps View PostHmm, so how does an oil bleeding mechanism cause pressure buildup inside brake hydraulics?

He does say "disassembled and reassembled the disc" by which I guess he means the caliper which ideally would free up a seized piston.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostI don't think it was the culprit but it is good that he replaced it. Yes, it is. Not only understanding, but our own experiences influence too. I had this same problem once (due to me not changing the fluid on time) - the pistons were free but a lot of dirt that looked like fine sand was settled in the master cylinder. What is the reason for a caliper to get stuck - rust ? They anyway slide over rubber seals, no?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostHe does say "disassembled and reassembled the disc" by which I guess he means the caliper which ideally would free up a seized piston.

Re: Front Disc heating (Gixxer 155)
Have seen the same happen on my friends Fazer when the SVC conned us by not changing the brake fluid, what people don't realise is that the brake fluid should never be topped off unless it's an emergency and there's a leak. And brake fluid has to be religiously changed once a year or when brake pads are changed, no questions.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostYes, it is. As for the caliper piston, it's normal happens due to dirt or rust or brake debris or the seals going hard, anyhow it happens. These things have an overhaul interval which needs to be taken seriously though for some reason I'm stupid enough to keep them running till I hit the 50k mark, AFAIK the interval is 15 or 25k KM's not sure though.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Front Disc heating (Gixxer 155)
I not only merely topped up but also topped up with DOT3 (the vehicle we believe came from the factory with DOT4). There was also salt like corrosion in the MC. It was a mistake.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostHave seen the same happen on my friends Fazer when the SVC conned us by not changing the brake fluid, what people don't realise is that the brake fluid should never be topped off unless it's an emergency and there's a leak. Bajaj, TVS and Yamaha recommend change of MC cup seals and caliper seals every 24k kms which is roughly every 2 years.
Honda and Suzuki simply say replace brake fluid every 2 years. The technician has to inspect for leaks at every service - am not sure whether they seriously check it.
I think it is a good idea to replace those every 25k kms at least for some peace of mind.

Re: Front Disc heating (Gixxer 155)
DOT 3 vs DOT 4 didn't make noticeable difference, every year I alternate between them as they come in different colours its easier to know when the entire system is purged of the old fluid and only has the new fluid in it.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostI not only merely topped up but also topped up with DOT3 (the vehicle we believe came from the factory with DOT4). Performance wise I've not noticed any difference, and mixing them is not much of an issue as they're cross compatible.Motorcycling Experience:
