Can I replace stock front chain sprocket 13 teeth to 14 teeth in the Apache RTR 160 4V.
The rear sprocket is 45 teeth by the way.

Changing the sprocket will not bring a big difference.

Speed: Adding a tooth to the front sprocket may theoretically result in a higher top speed but practically, the difference will be negligible. For example, the stock setup does 60 kmph at about 5k rpm and after the sprocket change it will be about 4.5k rpm. Just try accelerating from 60 kmph in the 4th gear and 5th gear. You will see the difference. The bike will accelerate better in 4th gear than in 5th. Similar will be the case of after the sprocket mod. With a larger front sprocket, your in gear acceleration and the acceleration post 60 kmph will take a hit. You can reach a better top speed but at what cost?? It will take longer than before to reach the same speed, say 100 kmph and after that the top speed will take almost forever.

Mileage: Let us assume that you are not lugging the engine and shift at the same rpm before and after the mod to start with. Most people will be riding at 3.5-5.5k rpm within the city limits. So, with a taller gearing, you will shift gears at higher speeds or in other words, do the same speed at a lower gear. So, your average rpm over the same distance with the same riding style will be higher and hence the mileage will decrease and not increase. However, the mileage will increase in the highways where you'll be running about 500-600 rpm lower at speeds of 80-100 kmph.

But remember that a taller final ratio puts more load on the crank and transmission. So if you are thinking of lugging around at low rpms with taller gearing, just don't. It will damage the engine in the long run and the cost of fixing it will offset anything that you saved (anything if at all) in terms of mileage.

So if you are aware of all these facts, go ahead with your mod.

Yeah go ahead [emoji1360] it won't create much hazzles , as 2 or 3 tooths modifications aren't bad either.

              Do observe and post here!!

*Apache 4v - First 2gears are too short

What happened to your bike ? Is that ticking noise while engine running , may be due to loosened screw, bolts anyhow get rectify it.

How much kms on ODO ??

Or you can put rear sprocket with 2-3 lesser number of teeth

How is your bike's performance after the mod, especially the acceleration??

What sprocket did you use (from which bike)??

                      Good job,
By Reducing the front sprocket by 1 tooth will give a mild increase in top speed sure but you should've gone for 2 tooths at least !!

It's ok BTW any noticeable changes ??

                          Yeah noticed
1st, 2nd , 3rd gear are very nice perfect pickup but 4th also good when we are going 4th to 5th top speed reaching slightly slow I think. Iam checking in city only but it's ok created awesome combination with increasing front 1 tooth
                          My next checking is mileage
I noticed it's slight variation it means increased but
I will back you soon after mileage test ..

Yeah it means you had got better acceleration with the change and if you change the rear sprocket you can see the rise in Topspeed !

But only a front or back should be altered once ! Both can't be changed at a time !

PS: Try testing the mileage figures if possible! As I am in running-in period ,I haven't checked the mileage yet!!
