  • Led Headlights For NS 200

I have a Pulsar NS 200 BS4. I want to change the old pathetic halogen headlamps to Nighteye LED's. The bike comes with stock 60W H4 Fit halogen bulbs. But LED's don't have 60W output. They have 30W of output. Will it be right to install lower wattage LED's? Do we need to do any changes to install?

Firstly you should consider the fact that these are 6500K white lights, not the warmer ones. They attract police challaans and accidents. Visibility in fog, rain and such is also limited.

In Bhubaneswar we don't have any headlamp rules now.

It is not about Bhubaneshwar. It is as per Central Motor Vehicles Rules which is applicable across India. And moreover the cops don't care what rules applies to them or not. The challan right when they get a chance. There were instances cops fined cyclist for over speeding and no helmet. Cops fined an Apace RR310 rider for that LED even when it is stock.

Most important part, 6500K is bright white. This may look cool to others but would effect your visibility. And will be a torture during rainy days. On a rainy day or with oncoming traffic, these lights just scatter all the place and fade away. The further you move away from yellow, the worse the visibility gets. They may seem to be brighter but are pathetic for visibility.

Those budget aftermarket LEDs are mostly Chinese and are not known for their reliability. If you want a good aftermarket LED, you'll have to spend a fortune, which might be more expensive that the entire headlight assembly alone.

Absolutely true. Headlight rules are applicable across the country, cops in Bhuvaneshwar may not be enforcing it rigorously but it is there. If they need to fill the treasury, they might challan you any day.

One suggestion would be to add two additional smaller capacity yellow lights below the stock one. It is not illegal and if done correctly looks cool while giving better visibility. A friend of my has done it on his Apache 180 and riding the bike at night is almost like riding during the day.

Yes this is a very efficient wat, and I think NS already has provision for those lights already.

Aftermarket LEDs are big no for the following reasons.
                1. As per CMVR such kind of after market leds are banned.
                2. Manufacturers design headlight reflector in such a way that i will have maximum output in halogen.
                3. Leds in reflector assemblies causes a massive glare to oncoming traffic.
                4. During rain it’s equivalent to riding your vehicle in no light situation just you can figure out radium and reflective based objects.
I own honda hornet 160r 2018. It does come with led by stock. But such leds need a matrix type reflector setup where minimum amount of glare and maximum output in lumens and brighness. Though my 4th point do applies here as well.
If you want to upgrade your headlights to leds or hids its best to retro fit projector setup which would cost a bomb for your pocket. And may void warrenty if applicable.
