  • Chassis Replacement Dominar

Unfortunately last week went through a Huge pothole at 70-80kmph on a NH.I saw the gutter Just few meters before and had to go through it without much reduction in speed. Fortunately nothing happened to me.But My Bikes Alloy wheel Broke, shock and chassis had a huge bend(Bend is seen where the shock is attached to the chassis).
Since No Third party involved.Cant file Fir.
So please give some suggestions how to go forward with Chassis replacement along with the legal hurdles that follows.

Sorry to hear about this unfortunate things, this is the first time I have seen a rear shock area getting damages, usually it's the front that I have seen till now.

You can go through following steps:
          1) Take the bike to your Bajaj dealer and get it inspected by head mechanic.
          2) Ask them look for any manufacturing defect like weak welds etc etc if your bike is still in warranty (even though it happened due to pot hole chances are chasis was not at its 100% efficiency to handle that), If yes wait for reply from Bajaj.
          3) If nothing works out and they don't agree or find manufacturing issues anything then ask them to give a estimate cost.
          4) File a self accident claim with your insurance customer care number, you don't need to have any FIR for self accident if there is no 3rd party person involved.
          5) Leave bike in service center and wait for insurance surveyor to and inspect the bike and wait for him take a look at the estimate.
          6) Usually if there is a chassis damage to main frame then its not repairable, you can accept frame repair to some extent if the damage is to non-crucial parts of the frame (not suggested completely).
          7) Try convincing your dealer to help you in your favor by trying to convince the Insurance surveyor on this to not to repair the old one. Usually surveyors try to push for repair of old ones , but if dealer rejects and supports for new part then they will agree for replacement. Again some known people in dealership or commission can help here.
          8) If the damage is main frame area, then you have to ask for the full frame replacement. If the cost is more than 75% of the IDV value then you are entitled for full IDV amount and old vehicle will be declared as total loss. If this is the case you'll get the full IDV amount and you can go ahead with new vehicle of your choice, same model or another bike but differential amount to be bared by you.

If the above does not work:
          9) If the repair cost is less than 75% then you can go ahead and order new chassis from Bajaj, once it arrives get it replaced. Depending on your insurance you might have to pay for this first fully and you'll get a refund later on.
          10) Submit the full new receipt, service bill, claim form, old RC book, and some bribe (sadly) to your RTO. Find a agent for this.
          11) You will get a new RTO endorsement, new RC book, and new endorsement from insurance.

            Thanks for your kind suggestions.
As per the current situation dealer is in my favour and have filed self claim with insurance company.
But surveyor have checked the bike and still awaiting the approval from him.

Btw the estimate for changing full chassis ,alloy and shock resulted in 35000 including labour. So its not any where near idv

Am just hoping for the insurance company to approve the claim fast.

As per the head mechanic also its first time a chassis have bend like this and also he strictly said to avoid any work on chassis as its a critical joint in bike.

If head mechanic is saying this, then kindly check if this and push for warranty, could some kind manufacturing defect, either improper cured metal, weak metallurgical property of the metal used in the chassis something like that etc etc

That's great, rest all process will be simple since RTO approval is done.

                    From the below parts calculations:
                    https://www.99rpm.com/bajaj/wheel-rim-dominar-400.html - Rear wheel cost 6k
                    https://www.99rpm.com/bajaj/body-frame-dominar-400.html - New chassis frame 16k
                    https://www.99rpm.com/bajaj/rear-sho...minar-400.html - New shocks - 3k

All comes to ₹25K, you can add labor charge of 20%, still it's nowhere close to ₹35K what you mentioned from dealer? Is there any other parts getting replaced?
