Carb problem in Gixxer

    So today I had been to a well known local mechanic. He cleaned the carb and fortunately everything was in place be it the fuel screw o-ring washer jets etc.

    But after fixing everything and tuning it, what we noticed is that the rpm rises when the fuel screw is turned to its leanest position, wherein it (rpm) should actually drop and engine should cut off!
    Then he noticed air leak near the carb manifold and told that replacing the rubber might fix the problem and if not, there might be problem with the carb which would require carb replacement :/ . Since, today is a holiday couldn't get the spare part to try if it works. Any thoughts on this?

      Hope changing that rubber fixes the problem. For carb tuning, good mechanics hook up the bike to a pollution testing machine. Then they check the values and vary the throttle while doing so. That is a good way to tune the carb.

        Put some araldite in the cracks of manifold. Then use black tape and seal the manifold. Then tune and check.
        Change the manifold when you get it.

          Yes, hoping for the same. It's a good method but the equipment is only available in authorized and reputed svcs. But then, the values are also not known to set it outside. So this is also a good way where you stick to the stock afr setting (i.e, 2turns out, 2*360 degree for gixxer) provided everything is in sync; say valve clearance, air filter, exhaust etc and has not been modified.

              Bhai put araldite in cracks and tape the insulator for now.

                I got the spare part & mechanic cleaned the carb and fixed it. He also suspected it could be tappet issue & adjusted it to correct specs on cold engine. But then, the rpm rises high on fully closing the fuel screw which is weird.[emoji848] So anyways thought of riding for few days (mechanic tuned it back @ 2 turns out) & suprisingly what I noticed is, it returned 45.x(kmpl) first time, then it kept on reducing eventually and now I'm getting around 40 kmpl. Any thoughts on this?
                (PS: filled petrol from the same bunk, same quantity, take the same route and same style of riding)
