  • Bike Jerks in Traffic

    Hi BHPians,

I have started riding my new bike from Oct 2018. I stay in Bangalore. I am facing some issue with my new bike when I ride for say around 1.5 hours and get stuck in slow moving traffic for say 20 mins, my bike does not move when I accelerate in first / second gear while slowly releasing the clutch, my bike jerks and suddenly moves fast.

What is going wrong ? What should I check in my Bike.... how to avoid this ??

    Thank you
    VJK

Looks like inconsistent fuel supply to the engine.

Do change the fuel pump from where you get the fuel. And if that doesn't solve the problem, try getting the tank thoroughly cleaned. Could be some water in the tank.

Also check and clean the air filter.

Not sure what type of bike it is, but on my older carbuerated bikes, I would get vapor lock from time to time when they would be stuck in slow speeds and hot weather. A pin-hole leak in the fuel lines can cause similiar issues. Small amounts of air get into the fuel line and then when you hit the throttle it sucks air for a second. Once that is out of the way - the fuel hits then so does the acceleration.

For the vapor lock - it is a hard solve, but for the pinhole leaks, a visual will let you know by watching the fuel lines and making sure they are tight but not over tight.
