  • FZ25 rust issues.

    Hey guys,
I own a FZ25, it has been with me for a year now. I have started to observe that the exhaust pipe is getting rusted. Also, the inner part of the disk is also catching rust. Any ideas to avoid and maintain them are needed.
    Thank you.

Are you sure it's rust on the exhaust? Do post a few pictures.

        This is rust-

The surface will feel rough and pitted/granulated.
If it is has a somewhat smooth feel and has a uniform brown color, it isn't rust.

My FZ25's pipe is brown in colour, but it isn't rusted. If I rub the exhaust pipe with my finger (when cold of course), mud/dust comes off and reveals the black paint. Notice the uniform color and lack of pitting.

This is the spot where I rubbed the exhaust-

The brown colour comes off easily.

This was one of the main reasons why I couldn't buy an FZ25 this time, loved my old FZ-s version 1

Search and coat it with tribas exhaust spray,a can for Rs 120,paint it by placing a newspaper covering the engine and other parts, when the silencer is entirely cold,i have used it and is doing pretty good.

I have a few suggestions here. Get the exhaust removed by a professional or if you know how to, and then use a 1000 grit sand paper (dry) to dry sand the rust and other contamination off. Alternatively you can also use a bit of kerosene or a strong soap solution.

Once the surface is completely dry and contamination free, you can use exhausts sprays from Bosny, Tribocor, or go to my preferred brand (CVC Exhaust Kote) from a local distributor (» CVC : Heat-Resistant Coating for Exhaust Pipes, EXHAUST COAT Manufacturers India | Suppliers & Exporters) and mask the areas that need not be covered by the coating.

Keep the can about 10 to 12 inches away from the surface and spray and leave it to dry completely.

CVC Exhaust Kote (Im neither a seller or a company representative - Im just a user) has by far lasted for more than 2 years on my bikes exhausts and also I have resprayed atleast 45 -50 exhausts using this product with no hassle or complaints later on.
