I was given a quote of Rs 700 by a shop in Malad by the name sagar auto, the shop is inline with Hotel Vrindavan but later found out that its just an embossed plate without the chip (watever that means). There is another place which is approved by the RTO by the name Signkraft in Goregaon and they charge 1200 bux which i find is steep but is the genuine one. Will wait till they become mandatory and cheaper.Comment

Embossed plates...
There are 2 types of embossed number plates:
1) High Security Registration plates
2) Anti Theft Smart plates.
The 1st plate is the one which the govt. is going to make compulsory in India in some time. It is the one that has a chip embedded in it. This chip is NOT for tracking purposes. It will contain all data in the RC book like chassis no., engine no. date of reg., etc. The cops will have a reader with them so they can just read data from the chips, which means no need to carry your documents with you except license & insurance. This plate is not available yet.
The 2nd one is the one which is seen in the picture posted earlier. It has a 'Ashok Chakra' hologram, IND printed & India printed across the number at a 45 degree angle. It features a special type of screw which has a head that breaks off once tightened & the remaining part has no grooves, which means it cant be unscrewed easily, thus the name.
