    Thunderbird 350 not starting / accelerating

    Hello people,

    Men, I just purchased a less used TB350 yesterday.

    2017 model with 6000 kms done.

    The bike is in pristine condition

    Service records etc all I checked

    The thing is yesterday the bike shut down while driving then I took it to my mechanic and he said water is in fuel tank so he got out all the petrol and sure enough there was water in it.

    He refilled the petrol after removing the water

    Bike started and I went home.

    Today morning again same issue.

    Bike starts but if I accelerate then it shuts down.

    I again removed all the petrol and saw that there was some water in it again.

    I threw the water and refilled the same petrol again.

    Bike started but then after 2_3 Kms same issue.

    I had to push it to my home ( I must say that I have been weightlifting for about 12 years but it was still a massive feat to push the bike)

    Then again I removed the petrol , and again refilled it. It started and was accelerating but then again shut down.

    My mechanic is coming after 2 days and I don't trust other guys with the bike.

    Could I be able to solve the issue at home?

    I have tried loosening the screw and all those things but for some reason the bike starts but doesn't accelerate ( shuts done when I accelerate)

    Any help will be appreciated.

      Good day.

      A lot has happened since June.

      Grandmother expired

      Floods in Mumbai washed away my godown.

      Took time to get on track.

      The bike still has the issue.

      So far have changed the air filter and cleaned the carb at mechanics.

      The bike starts but even if I accelerate the engine dies.

      I have showed to 2 mechanics here and both are clueless.

      Don't want them to experiment with the bike as even they aren't sure what is causing this.

      Kindly help.me I have saved for 5-6 months to buy this bike and now tired of the issues

      Also the mechanic did some thing to the carb screw.

      It's stuck now very tightly.

      The issue has stopped me from taking the bike anywhere outside city as afraid it will.leave me.stranded

          From what I gather i can think of three reasons from my past experiences with a TB
          1) Bad fuel
          2) Issue with floater pin in the carb
          3) Spark Plug gone kaput

          You can check 2&3 before investigating 1.

          Hope this solves your problem.

            How to know if sparg plug has gone bad?

            Want to try and solve my bike issues on its own.

            Another thing is, I undid the fuel (the screw below the place where we can one-off fuel supply) and bike started so went to my regular mechanic and he says it's gas issue and tells me to open up the tank for a bit whenever I get the issue.

              Carb needs to be removed, cleaned and the jets needs investigated for fuel flow. If fuel flow is minimal then one of the jets or all of them needs replacement - let your mech do this.
              Since you were able to ride to your mech, I think spark plug may not be an issue but just rule out any issues I suggest you swap it another one and see if the bike starts - let your mech do this
              Leaving the fuel cap open for a min will solve air locking issue temporarily. Please open the fuel line attached to the carb and see if there is enough fuel flow. Please let the fuel flow into bottle or some sort of container when you are doing the above investigation - you may do this or let your mech do it

                Again bike stopped today at 5.30am while had to leave mother at station.
                She took an auto midway.


                Bike again was sputtering to start( started but if I accelerate then again shut off)

                I waited a few mins and opened tank and closed again and then it was good to go.

                1) Also, carb has been cleaned thoroughly 2 times till.now and even my trusted mechanic says it's fine

                2)The fuel.line which one should I check?
                I mean the fuel pipe which connects from the petrol ON/Reserve switch to the carb right ?

                Kindly do excuse me as I am new to this.

                Previously also owned a 2004 AVL tb350 but sold due to huge issues in cold start and was left stranded one night.

                I especially like to take tours on the bike but this issue is always on the back of the mind.

                  1. Change the petrol in the tank. It seems the fuel has gone bad (maybe the bike has been standing for quite some time). Put fresh fuel in the tank and remove all of it into can/bottle and use somewhere else.
                  2. Drain all the fuel from the carb. Don't put it back in the tank, it might have impurities or water
                  3. Carb jets look like have gummed up or blocked. Put premium fuel with cleaning agents like Shell Vpower or XtraPremium or Speed.
                  4. Check fuel cap for rust/blockage. There is a drain hole in the fuel tank near filler, check if it is clear. If not, water will enter your tank and mix with fuel. Also, ask your mechanic to clean fuel cap with compressed air to clear the tiny holes for air inlet
                  5. If it is BS4, check the pipeline for evap canister is getting blocked or not. Some Himalayan users had the evap pipe getting squeezed/crimped by the routing.

                    Cleaned the Air pipe which connects from inside tank ( don't know the name) used pressure air and some dirt came out.

                    Bike holding good as of now.

                    Also, I am heavily interested in servicing the bike myself.

                    Any ideas where I can find comprehensive guideline?

                    Tried YouTube but didn't get detailed videos.

                    Any links will be appreciated

                      That is the drain pipe for the water. If it is clogged, water will enter your fuel tank and mix with petrol causing issues.

                      Watch your mechanic when he does work in your bike. I learned it that way. Let us know if you are wanting to fix something specific, we can help guide you in right direction.

                        Thanks a lot.

                        My worries finally seem to be over and the issue is solved.

                        Thing is my mechanic takes the bike in morning and gives In evening so not feasible to stay.
