  • When should I change my CHAIN? Hero Ignitor 125

I have clocked 24000KM and the mechanic suggest to get the following replaced

    1. Chain and its entire assembly(Original HERO part)
    2. Half axle(Original HERO part

The reason given by the mechanic - Chain and half axle have gone bad after normal wear and tear.

My observation - Chain is gets loose after getting it calibrated again and again since last 100 KM.

Should I go with what the mechanic says?

Note - My mechanic is third part since the official service centers offer pathetic service with zero reliability.

    Thank you in advance!

    Topic Approved.

Chain and sprockets are moving components and of course, they are prone to wear and tear.

Depending on your riding, your chain-sprocket kit may need to get replaced, maybe at 20,000, maybe at 40,000, all depending on how smoothly you ride.

So, get it replaced if your chain is loose and has reached its last setting (it can't be tightened further). If your chain is tight enough, you can still keep using it for some more time.
The lower part of your chain, if you move by 3 fingers, should travel about 40mm, that's the approximate ideal tightness of chain.

(NOTE: you will need to remove your chain covers (upper and lower) to check all this. Without removing, its very difficult to check this. You can remove chain cover yourself too, no big deal, you need the right size bolt-tightener, maybe 10 or 12 I think.)

I can't comment about Half axle, as I haven't seen your machine. Take advice from another mechanic if it is needed.
Normally, its a durable part and although its under pressure and load, but it still doesn't require replacement this early.

If its cheap, replace it and ask mechanic for the old one, and ask him what's wrong with the older one, by visually inspecting it.

Thank you for replying. Here is the photo of the half axle. Please advise on further steps.

Sorry for the late reply. I was unaware of the reply to my post. It will take time for me to learn basic operations of this forum. Thanks!
