  • Help: Karizma Disc Brake (Accident)

    HI friends.....
Recently i met with a small accident on my Karizma..
I was riding on 50kmph and all of a sudden a motorist took a sharp right turn...I hit him with the front wheel and fell down....
    Luckily, nothing serious happened...

From that day i can notice a rubbing sound from the front disc brake...like the pads are rubbing the disc....I have shown this to a local mechanic and he said that sound was common for all Karizma's....For my sake he removed the pads and did a bit of grinding to them...No use..sound continues

Could there be a bend in the Front axle that connects the wheel to the forks??? Anyone to help me out.......

there may be a slight bent on the front fork as u hit the front wheel... bent axle is highly unlikely.

Is it the 2 metals rubbing against each other sound...?

Than, its d sound from the disc pads..

probably its time to change them....!

Bent Fork does not give any noise, I guess its time to change the Disk pads. A worn out Disk pads produces the rubbing noise.

A mild scraping noise is normal. I'd listen to the mechanic.

Place your bike on the main stand with the front wheel suspended in the air and spin it a few times. Does the contact inhibit free movement of the wheel in any way? If it doesn't, you're doing fine. (The wheel shouls come to a normal halt and not stop abruptly) If it does slow the wheel down then it could be an alignment issue that may result in your having to change the wheel or disc - check while spinning if the alloy wheel is bent.

get ur forks + t-stem trued..it must have been sightly bent after the crash..thats all..costs peanuts..check with a dial gauge and straighten with hydraulic press

Ajay, do exactly what Nirvan says. A little bit of noise will be there as the pads stay close to the disk.

By any chance did the guy hit you on the disc itself? If that's the case then your disc might be slightly bent and thus rubbing on to the pads. Otherwise just change the pads and you should be fine.

front disc bents easily if someone hits onto it directly.. its very much exposed so quite a lot chance you have got a bent disc after that guy hit your bike... does the sound comes when you apply brakes ?? or during normal wheel rotation as well ? but i am sure its from the disc assembly only.. not from forks or the alloy...

according to Nirvan.......the wheel stops bit abruptly if i spin it slowly.....If i spin fast, it takes little time to stop......

thanx evryone 4 ur suggestions.......will there be any problem wid the mileage due to this brake problem??

Ajay, you don't need to worry about mileage. Also since we are not physically able to see your bike in the flesh to examine it, pinpointing the source of the problem is difficult. However, judging by your explanation, my guess is, the pads need to be changed. You probably got more receptve of the noise after the accident as it has made you check everything on the front end of your bike.

Relax and get things done calmly. Moreover, be more careful on the roads next time. Its a harsh world out there for bikers in India.
