Gixxer 250 SF- Knocking sound on accelaration
I have bought a new Gixxer 250 SF. After every gear change, when I try to accelerate, it makes a knocking sound (not like regular revving sound).
Is it normal ?Last edited by NewsReaper; 06-21-2019, 08:43 PM.Tags: None

Re: Gixxer 250 SF- Knocking sound on accelaration
Are you short shifting aggressively?
Gearing on every bike is different if you are shifting according to what you used to do with your previous bike ( assuming you had a previous bike) then you might get the knocking sound. You will take some time to adapt to the shifting points in this bike. I hope that's the only reason for the knocking sound of the engine.

Re: Gixxer 250 SF- Knocking sound on accelaration
Knocking (engine) generally arises ,if the gear is not engaged at right RPMs. Try shifting the gears above 4K RPM and check if this problem exists !!!Originally posted by Rider250 View PostI have bought a new Gixxer 250 SF. Re: Gixxer 250 SF- Knocking sound on accelaration
i agree there is a little sound as i too own Gixxer SF 250, but this is due to improper gear shifting according to RPM. There is no knocking if gear is shifted above 4 to 4.5K RPM. But the bike lacks yamaha smoothness. There are vibrations and quite noticeable at certain RPMs. I am too looking for an ownership thread.Originally posted by Rider250 View PostI have bought a new Gixxer 250 SF. Congrats on the new ride bro.Originally posted by priyank.shishodia View PostYes Bro. Driven about 1700km in one month.
I don't think there is an ownership thread for gixxer 250 yet.
why don't you go ahead and start a thread of your own and share your experiences.
We would love to know about you and your new ride.
Don't forget to add lots of pics.
As for the knocking sound; yup it is due to short shifting, always shift at above 4k RPM. These bikes are not to be driven like a splendor, where you reach 4th gear at 25 kmph and go along. They like being revved and the engines like producing their power at high rpms. Short shifting will be harmful in the long run. keep it in above 3k rpm even if you are riding lazily and shift after 4k rpm.
Ride safe bro and congrats on the new bike again.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

what about the sound when you shift into first gear from neutral and to second gear from first gear... you cant rev to 4 k in those scenarios. My friends sf 250 has these issues makes me think there is something wrong with the bikeOriginally posted by Ankey View PostCongrats on the new ride bro.

there is a thud sound when you go from Neutral to first and then a little less thud from first to second.Originally posted by raziel04 View Postwhat about the sound when you shift into first gear from neutral and to second gear from first gear... you cant rev to 4 k in those scenarios. Its normal for all the bikes.
But if you think there really is a problem, check with the authorized service centers. Talk to the other users and see if they are having the same issues.
Usually the first batches of the new bikes have some issues because they are not properly tested, and these issues are eliminated in the next batches because of the feedback from the first owners. Checking with the service centers would be the safest course of action at this point of time.
Fell free to update us about what they say, you can record a video or sound clip and post it here so that we can understand the issue better.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Gixxer 250 SF- Knocking sound on accelaration
I felt the same about knocking. It's not typical knocking when engine runs on lower RPM. But as soon as I do an upshft at around 4.5k RPM, and give throttle on the next gear there is a sound similar to knocking at the initial RPM, mostly from 3.5k to 4k RPM. Also the same noise is felt when engine is on idle in neautral, with clutch engaged (lever released). I had asked in a seperate post. Is this something similar to yours?Down to Gehenna or up to the Throne, He travels the fastest who travels alone...
