[Help]: Procedure for Junking a Motorcycle
An uncle in my area has a Old motorcycle which is totally rusted. The scrap dealer offered him a 1000 bucks to take it away. But he is paranoid about it being misused. Anyone know whats the procedure for de-registering a motorcycle or whatever?Tags: None

Does the bike run ? If yes, y sell it so cheap. If not, what misuse can the scrap dealer do with it ?
U can insist him to dismantle it in front of you guys and then take it, or perhaps grind off the engine, chassis number!!
But, sorry no idea about if there is anything called re registeration.Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!

In the NCR, all vehicles that are more than 15 years old are considered automatically deregistered. You have to find out from your local RTO.
Misuse = Hit and run etc... after the bike has been restored etc! It will come back to the original owner. The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think its no longer road legal after 15 years, but a registration as in a track back to the owner of the vehicle is still maintained.Originally posted by ken cool View PostIn the NCR, all vehicles that are more than 15 years old are considered automatically deregistered. Ask the scrap dealer, if he intends to restore it, do the paperwork.
Or if he intends to sell it by parts, dont give him the number plates.Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!

Yes, you are probably right. Unless it changes hands, with proper documentation. Of course after 15 years, it has to be re-registered again provided it passes the fitness test.Originally posted by sukant08 View PostForgive me if I'm wrong, but I think its no longer road legal after 15 years, but a registration as in a track back to the owner of the vehicle is still maintained.

Pretty evident analytical bent of mind with the knack to argue adroitly... this is not a criticism, I am paying you a complement... once again! Anyway, this is going OT!Originally posted by sukant08 View Postnaah, just a software mazdoor !

even if a kabadi wala takes it he is not authorised to break it into parts and sell the parts to someone... this is illegal as well.. your uncle is left out with the option to sell it to someone who is ready to get the ownership transfered in his name and restore the bike.. if it can be restored at all... if nott..why not give it to a some mechanic..

Well, my dad gave away a Kinetic moped and a Chetak Scoot to a scrap dealer. He was worried about the same thing. But he made sure that the vehicles were cut up before him... and the engine and chassis numbers... esp. of the scoot, were etched out.
I think this should be more than enough.
