  • [Photo Feature]: Royal Enfield 1969 model starting help

I got a Royal Enfiled 69 Std original made England Model from one of my father's friends. It had been sitting in the parking cellar of his residence for 2 years. I got it home, cleaned it and got a new battery, 12v 5A as the old one was dead.

Which engine oil should I go for and what are the recommended grades for a typical 1969 model is 20w50 grade ok?

Some parts such as the taillamp, indicators, front and rear number plates have been stolen and the crash guard is missing too they've been stolen

This is my first experience with a Royal Enfield so I do not want to ruin it before it even starts.

That is why I would like to ask the experts here and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know any good mechanics nearby islie want to do all the work as much as possible by me.

Got it started but bulls heats like hell and misfies with black soot coming out of the silencer. Okay so no one's here?

You need to readjust the carburettor setting. Misfiring and black smoke occurs because of the rich fuel setting. Over heating also can be rectified by carb adjustment to lean setting. And check for the choke too, it has to be off once the engine is warmed up.
