  • Apache RTR 200 4V engine problem

    Hi,

I had an issue with the engine for the past 6-8 months.

It seemed like an issue with the clutch, so I got it checked with the service center. They said one part of clutch is completely worn out and I got it replaced. They also said the clutch plates are worn out too and suggested I replace that soon.

I got the clutch hub replaced after another 2 months. And suddenly, the bike used to pull forward, even when the clutch lever was held. And suddenly in the day of service check, something happened and the bike wouldn't move even in 5th gear. Turns out that the G B shaft was worn out completely.

I got my bike in Feb 2017 and I have covered 31k km on it.
I have done few long rides, but mainly I use it in the city (Bengaluru).
Is it normal for this to happen? Or could it be a manufacturing defect?
I have spent around 10K₹ to get my bike fixed & now I'm in a position where I can't sell my bike and get a new one because of the current prices.

    Please help me.

    Thank you

None of it is normal and none of this should be happening if you haven't abused your bike but I also don't think it's a manufacturing defect otherwise I feel you wouldn't have been able to ride the bike for 30+k kms. I think this is just an unlucky situation.

Having said that I must confess that I have seen this and similar problems in Apache 180s before. One in particular had your exact same problem. It does happen but is extremely rare and mostly just bad luck.

I'm also an rtr200 owner. I bought mine in 2018 and have since run it 20k kms and the only issue I've truly faced is the gear shift indicator being wonky, showing 5th instead of 3rd and 4th instead of 1st, etc. And that's a niggling issue with almost all 200s so I'm not bothered until I have problems riding the bike because of it.

Anyway, I think you should claim warranty if possible which I doubt since your bike is 2017 and there's only a year's warranty on this bike. If you can't claim warranty then see if throwing money at it will fix the problem permanently and if it doesn't then cut your losses and sell the bike.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers
