[Help]: ZMA Mileage

Hi Ravi, thanks for ur reply. Well when i rolled it out of the showroom, the tank was almost empty, the guy told me it'll last for 5 kms max. So i went straight to a pump and he was able to fill in 18 litres i think. From what i know ZMA normal usage is 15 litres and rest is reserve. But just today i noticed that when i start the bike, the fuel gauge shows reserve, but after a while, it shows me one bar available on normal (digital meter)... So i guess my bike will last a little more before reserve. But i still dont think it will be more than 32

First thing is Karizma's tank will not take 18 lts, as far as I know. I guess the Petrol Pump is filling less quantity.
Do not estimate the reserve based the fuel meter. Karizma's reserve is 2 liters. When the first bar starts to blink, there still will be 4 L of petrol left (2L still there to go to reserve). So I guess, you still have a minimum of 4L of petrol in the tank. Also remember, fuel meters will give only rough measurement of fuel and not very accurate.
The next time you check FE follow these instructions. First when you reach reserve set the trip value to zero and fill approximately 10 L of petrol. Then note the trip value when bike comes to reserve. The total trip value divided by 10 will give you the exact FE of your bike.
Hope I cleared your doubts.

even i did the same mistake the first time i refilled..i calculated as soon as the last bar started blinking!Originally posted by drumster View PostOKay, thats a bit of a relief. Thanks Ravi

Later came to know it had 4 liters of fuel!
U fuelled 18 litrs? in a 15 litre tank man? First time i fuelled, max i could get in was 16 litres as far as i remember..hope the petrol pump is not cheating
Cheers,

yeah right, probably the station he filled from has an incorrect guage!Originally posted by vinfreak View Post16 lts is wat i could fill from almost Dry position to the Brim. Mine returns an Avg of 44kmpl with 80% riding under 5k rpm and very occasional bursts to 100kmph

44 is a perfectly healthy figure from the zma man! hope i get something around!!
currently getting around 38

The HH website spec sheet says the Karizma's total capacity is 15 litres including a reserve of 2 litres.
I have personally never filled more than 15 litres in the bike, so I don't know if HH has a cut-off for fuel capacity based on the fuel in the tank not reaching the brim but some predetermined level - for example the level of the lower end of the baffle.

There is only one possibility of filling 18 liters in karizma tank, fill less quantity for each liter. It is obvious that the petrol bunk where Drumster filled less quantity per liter. The meter reading may show 18 liters, but in actual it is not more than 16 liters.

Guess you guys were right - Even after the reserve started blinking the bike is still going on and on - the distance on the meter is 500 kms now. Assuming that 15 litres is the tank capacity out of which 2 litres is reserve - this shows a healthy average of 38-39 and theres still some fuel to go... So it might touch 40

My ZMA has done 1.6k. I posted elsewhere in the forum regarding the mileage I am getting, but I guess there's no harm posting again here as this is specifically talking about mileage.
My conclusion was not very accurate as I calculated from the fuel gauge "blinking-to-blinking". I mean, I filled up 10.6 litres and reset the trip meter when it started blinking. Next, I noted down the trip meter when it started blinking again. At this point, the trip meter was reading 535 Kms. This will come to approx. 50 kmpl.
I believe, even after accounting for margin of error, I may be getting close to 50 kmpl. Even I was surprised. Though I should also note that my daily ride consists of 30% city and 70% highway. No hard acceleration. Maintain engine under 4k rpm or speed @ 60 kmph with occassional short burst that almost touch 70 kmph while overtaking.
Next time I will calculate from reserve-to-reserve. This may provide a more accurate mileage.
O yeah "drumster", I was following your post before you purchased your ZMA. I too was looking out for information on motorcycles at that time. An here I am, with my new ZMA

, that too at 4k rpm with 30% city riding?? Something wrong with your calculation. If it is true, no comments please except feeling jelous of your bike.

Took me by surprised as well. But I'll try to get a more accurate figure using "reserve-to-reserve" method. Filled 2 litres yesterday to takes me back to my regular petrol pump but still running on those two litres. My bike may go to reserve in the next 1 or 2 days. I'll do my calculation then.
Hope I'm right
. [fingers crossed]
