  • Idling and mileage

I have a pulsar 180 2015 model. Done 49,000 kms on the odo. Still going strong.

However, the only issue I face recently being poor idling and very low mileage. I just got the carburetor cleaned a week back and yet to change how much she drinks per kilometre. But the poor idling persists. In the mornings of Kolkata, the bike starts with one single press of the ignition but shuts off. After about 2 to 3 kilometers it doesn't shut off but idling remains an issue throughout the day no matter how much I ride. I haven't replaced the throttle cable a single time. Could it be due to that? Advice needed.

      Re: Idling and mileage

Your query is not quite clear.

How is your idling behaving? Is it erratic or it slows down? Fuel efficiency figures have also not been stated. If your throttle operation is still silky smooth then replacing the cable may not be required. Cleaning the carb. is okay for such an issue but I wonder whether the air-fuel mixture screw has been perfectly adjusted by the mechanic. Please look into that aspect closely. Also, the air filter's condition needs to be examined, as you have not mentioned it. I highly recommend the use of only premium petrol brands like Speed, Power and xtraPremium as they also contain cleansers which help in keeping the fuel supply system clean, thus obviating the need for frequent cleaning of carbs. and meddling with their settings unnecessarily.

Please get your bike examined by a knowledgeable mechanic- he need not be from Bajaj Service Centre only.

I am assuming that there is no electrical issue in your bike like a faulty CDI etc.

I understand what you're talking about. Check the fuel pump you're fueling at. Trust me the problem is with the fuel not your bike

          A few things to check.

          >Fuel from the fuel pump
          >contamination in the tank/rust
          >residue in the fuel pipe/lock blocking fuel movement
          >Dirty air filter
          >Air filter intake clogged with a cloth or something else
          >Poor or damaged spark plugs
          >Faulty Induction coil

            Following things can be checked.
            1) Engine compression.
            2) Idle screw setting in Carburettor.
            3) Air cleaner.
            4) Fuel tank contamination level.
            5) Spark Plug.
            6) Ignition coil.

This might be the issue because of presence of rust inside fuel tank. Clean your carburetor once again and make sure its main jet and pilot jets are cleaned properly. It will solve your issue.
