  • Motorcycle Storage and Protection during Lock Down Period

    Hi Riders,
As you know, we have a lock down all over the country. I have a Gixxer 250 SF, ridden just 650 kms and as the situation warrants, we can not take rides outside. Could you guys please share your knowledge in storing the motorcycle and taking it back after the Lock Down is over? I have the following questions.

The bike is still in run-in period as you read.

    1. Should the bike be started regularly to warm it up? I have seen posts that say idling can do more harm than good, instead, riding is always better. Some posts suggest to rev engine instead of idling to protect it. Need clarification on this.

    2. Should the bike be serviced and get oil changed immediately after lock down or is it okay to ride it to complete the service interval? Also, how should it be ridden after these 21 days or more?

    3. As this is a new motor and is still in run in period, what extra care should be taken to protect bike and engine?

Please give your expert opinions to ease this out.

    Cheers,
    Kiran

Ride it normally after 21days like how you would treat a new bike, service it if possible... Nothing gonna happen if you don't ride just warm up the engine once in a week.. Its good to go

Thank you for suggestion. Do you have any input for warming up the engine? Some say we can idle for 5 minutes or so. There is another opinion that we should rev it little. Both of them says the other way damages engine. Confused in this part.

Don’t rev your bike too much. Idling for 5minutes every 2-3 days will just be fine. Just make sure the bike is moved around a little bit so that the tyres don’t get deformed due to standing at one place for weeks.
