  • DIY'ing rebuilding a Honda Dream Neo - Help required

Hello guys, Anand here, I'm from Chennai.
So I recently picked up my first project motorcycle, a honda dream neo. It's for my dad, his main priority was a simple, stress free and lightweight bike. So I was scouring the olx ads and I forwarded a link to my dad, little did I know he had already bought it. P.s I knew absolutely nothing about rebuilding a motorcycle in and out except for a general service. So back to where I was, he got it home and it was a wreck, literally a wreck, shoddy repaint, cracked panels, paint peeling off and so on, every part of it was messed up. So the only option was to sell it off for a complete loss. But the heart said don't let someone else struggle. So I listened and started rebuilding it completely.
The bike in the description is a 2013 honda dream neo with possible over 1L+ kms on the odo based on its condition.

I need help with the following stuff,
    1) I'd like to upgrade to a disc setup up-front since the drums don't feel that confidence inspiring . I can source the front end of a shine from pudupet but the confusion in my head is honda advertises longer travel suspension and higher ground clearance for this motorcycle. So will the shines fork be ok? I think 10mm ish more than the yuga. And what would be the approximate cost for a second hand fork assembly, disc assembly? 2 -2.5k sounds like a good price? (If you guys have any contacts too, that would be fab!)

    2) I would like to upgrade the rear suspension to a much much more comfortable one. The Honda's shocks are hard. Will the platina comfortec shock do it or any other bike's shock fit it. I'm ok with any bike's shock as long as they're super comfortable. Comfort is the priority here for my dad.

    3) I got myself a heavy duty chain kit from Hero. I think it's supposedly of the 428 pitch variety no markings anywhere on it but it's much thicker than the stock honda one which is a 420 pitch one. I want to upgrade to a 15T sprocket. Will the old unicorn's sprocket be a perfect match? I want the bike to cruise comfortably at 70kph that's all.

    4) can anyone please post a picture of the sidelock on your dream Yuga and the new neo's? I want to a new lock set kit for my bike which has the side lock. I've zeroed in on KT-2261HZ kit from spark Minda. Would like any advice if it would be a perfect fit for the neo. The above model is for the yuga . Please post pics of the side lock inside view and the place where the lock seats on the inside

    5) what's the max size rear tyre I can fit on the neo without removing the chain cover?

    6) as I'm from chennai , I feel that 10w30 is too thin for the outside ambient temperature that might hover around 38-43 during summer here. Will 10w40 be fine? I'm thinking of shell ax7 Semi synthetic 10w40. Currently using Honda's oil for break in till 1k kms. Then I'll shift to 10w30 HP synth racer for 2k kms before shifting to 40. Kindly advice if this is ok

This rebuild wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for xbhp, team bhp and tonnes of youtube videos. Thank you all for reading, appreciate all the help I can get to finish this rebuild. A lot of work has gone into it and I can help others too , I'll post the list of work done and its cost encountered if someone's interested.

    Please share your inputs
    Well wishes and regards, Anand
