  • Buying Bajaj motorcycle spares - genuine or OEM?

I searched a little here regarding this query; couldn't find much information, so opening a new thread.

There are often times when we can't get Bajaj spares in genuine packaging, while the same stuff is available in OEM packaging. This is becoming more of an issue as Bajaj rolls out so many variants on their different product lines - Pulsar, Discover, Platina et al.

How much does the quality between the stuff in genuine and OEM packaging vary. With respect to price, I have observed OEM stuff is MRP'ed a little less than the genuine stuff. Why the added price on genuine packaging? Is it for some added quality control that Bajaj enforces or just a premium for its brand name?

unless it concerns the BS6 fuel injected models, for which only the injectors are worth getting from Bajaj, rest do not matter at all, Bajaj does negligible quality testing and the bikes have so much loose tolerances that even mysterious parts from aliexpress/alibaba will fit.

Thanks Manan for answering my query.

Well, I would agree and I would disagree to what you have said. Bajaj genuine spares aren't top class, but they aren't bottom-of-the pit either, vis-a-vis spurious non branded spares. I have had to throw away absolutely new T-stem, handle bars , all non-branded, that I was forced to buy in a pinch. There is some level of quality control of course, how high the standards are - that is open to wide speculation. Not to pooh pooh on the present generation of Bajaj products, but, yes, I can't help noticing the cheap plastic and paint quality- be it a 125CC or a 400CC machine. The standards have fallen massively since my UG2. My next upgrade would be either a Yamaha or KTM.

So, going by your logic I am fine picking up OEM packaged spares. I am in a spot; can't find a chain-set for my UG2, in genuine packaging. I have become so wary that I doubt even the ROLON branded package might be a counterfeit as well.

I would say that the UG 1 one with its 21 litre tank was the last notable pulsar which I still had before trading it for a RX 135, do you recall which OEM parts you had for the defective parts there are around 4 manufacturers that used to supply to bajaj, till ug 3 there was a notable chinese supplier with whom I used to trade with for my UG 1.

Honestly unless I am buying a 10 lakh plus motorcycle, I would stay away from any BS6 vehicle, the change was bought so suddenly that many of the so called BS6 models are just a hudge pudge of BS4 stock and compliant pollution tech .When the change was from bs 3 to 4 companies had almost a year to sell off old stock.

To me indian made ktms are just bajaj with Austrian colours I wont touch them with a pole.

Regarding Yamaha india, my bet is on the SS gladiator or whatever its current name is, FZ to me is too gimmicky and r15 is too track focused; which I wont be comfortable to use as a commuter

          my 2 cents

rather I would put my bet on a pre 2008 avenger, same bajaj ease of repair but class leading comfort.

They weren't OEM. They were 'genuine counterfeits'. The T-stem had ENDURANCE stamped on it, but the feel, fit and finish shouted it's real antecedents. Rode for over a month with a wobbly front, before I could source a genuine stuff. The counterfeit handle bar was a mm too thick and the metal was rigid. I am back to riding with a bent genuine handlebar.

True. Peeked into a Bajaj showroom yesterday. And other than P150, nothing else made sense. They have even gone full fairing for even P180 in BS6 now. No naked fairing in P180 anymore. And, the paint and overall quality - be it metal or plastic is so shoddy, across the entire product range.

Re: Buying Bajaj motorcycle spares - genuine or OEM?

Interesting thread. I would say stick to the genuine parts. Sure they're at times hard to source but there are sites like 99rpm and esskayautomotive to help you out.

Coming to the topic of plastics, quality has gone down across the board, I mean for all manufacturers. Especially the Yamaha r15, the plastics are way cheaper than what you get on a Bajaj.

Now on the point of quality gap between these OEMs and Bajaj's genuine spares, it also depends on where you get these OEM spares from. My city is close to Rudrapur, where Endurance factory is present. And it is still not common to see endurance branded stuff at sale. I do use rear brake pads from the OEM (ASK) and they have always worked well for me. Apart from this, a friend has used a chain-sprocket set from Allied Nippon and it didn't last well for him. I have been using Rolon kit in Bajaj packing, and other friends have used Rolon bought from their official dealer in the city. Works the same for us.

Also regarding KTMs, the BS6 lot and the BS4 motorcycles have a world of difference in terms of refinement. We have BS4 rc200 as well as BS6 rc200 in our local group, the latter is just way smoother, both being newer motorcycles.

+1. So, I am not the only one who gets eyesores seeing the newer R15s. I still remember the day when I spent over 15 mins ogling over two R15 V1s, one black and one blue, in 2008, parked next to each other, next to the chaatwalah. The plastic, the metal, the fit and finish, the decals, everything was perfect, complementing each other - a piece of art!

Thanks for the info. I just might bite the bullet today and go for the ROLON pack. Can't stand the clanking anymore. Ways to verify that it's a genuine ROLON - hologram?

I buy it from the official Rolon dealer. If you are not sure, go with online official dealers and place an order.

Shall search for the official Rolon dealer. Online is an issue right now. Almost all online portals aren't shipping to my city right now.
