  • Gixxer 155 acceleration problem

    Hey, everyone.

I have a Suzuki Gixxer 155 which has completed 24,000 Kms and I have recently started facing a very weird problem. The bike runs fine when put on the centre stand. But when I start riding it, there is a lag as when I twist the throttle and when the engine actually responds.

The engine kind of bogs down for a second or two and after that it starts accelerating. As I have already said when put on the centre stand, there is no such problem. What might be the problem? It would be of much help if someone could throw some light on the issue.

    Additional info:

    # Engine oil: Motul 7100 10w40
    # Spark plugs changed at 15,000 Kms
    # Air Filter changed at 23,000 Kms.

P.s. I have tried adjusting the carb but the issue doesn't seem to go away.

Try changing your spark plug to ngk iridium. Clean your airfilter and carb. Check your ignition coil or spark plug cap. Do let me know if has solve your problem.

Check throttle cable routing. Also replace spark plug to stock one, no point going for iridium plugs as someone else stated.

If this doesn't help, check clutch pack, clutch setting.

        Goodluck.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I have ordered a liqui moly 4t additive fuel system cleaner but it's taking too long to arrive owing to the lockdown. Will let you guys know if that solves the problem.

So guys I have been using the additive and I don't see any visible results. Maybe the clutch plate is shot. The jerkiness when suddenly opening the throttle along with power drop from 3000 to 4000 rpm is still there. Will update once I have completely emptied my fuel tank.

Being a mechanic, i will suggest you always check problems from mechanic and if you prefer to do it yourself ready for expenses.
Two things need to be check for power lag
                1. carburetor
                2. clutch
By the way spark and ignition system is considered for starting troubles and knocking.

By running fine on centre stand do you mean in neutral or in gear? If you meant with bike in neutral, ofcourse you wont see the problem as it may be due to your clutch setting (free play) or with your clutch plates.
Just to give everyone some experience, Suzuki have been known to cut costs on wearables like clutch and chain sprocket set etc. so that user has to replace them early and they can earn from spares. My dad's Zeus had its clutch plates changed within 1 year(15-16000kms), he is a sedate rider and never exceeded 60kmph. He used to get chain washed with kerosene with every service which helped his chain last 18000kms while all other user had their chains die at 9000kms, the mechanics themselves told him.
There's no harm in checking your spark plugs gapping too, new plugs often require re-gap which mechs forget to do.

I meant while running in gear on center stand. If I put the motorcycle on center stand put it in gear and apply sudden throttle input no such problems appear. I had gone to the SVC but since I had an oil change recently they asked me to wait for the next oil change to check if the clutch discs were shot. Also the chain seems to wear out a lot quicker too. I think I will be going for an after market chain as my second chain has link freeze even after I have been using chain cleaner and lube.

                      Re: Gixxer 155 acceleration problem

Hello guys quick update. The problem has reduced to a large extent. There is a tiny bit lag but not as pronounced as it used to be. Also the jerk during sudden throttle input has also reduced. I think liqui moly has done it's work. Will update if the situation improves further.

Maybe check your carb? Get it clean. Try pulling choke half way and test. Might be the carb but I'm no mechanic just trying to help.

Hey sorry for the late update. But as I have said the problem seemed to disappear as I was using liqui moly shooter. Also since my motorcycle has completed 25k Kms so I thought of changing the clutch discs too. I do feel that the motorcycle does lag when I open the throttle suddenly.
