Pulsar 150 twin disc 2020 overheating issue

    Pulsar 150 twin disc 2020 overheating issue

    Hello to all Fellow Bikers,

    I am new biker and need to learn a lot please guide me.

    I just bought a wonderful bike Pulsar 150 twin disc on 30 August 2020 from Bharat Bajaj, Bikaner, Rajasthan and it is heating up a lot even when riding for 3-4km.

    Little bit past: Just after buying I rode it for 150 km with 90-110 kmph speed (I was a novice). After 10-12 km of riding, I noticed some burning smell so I called to bike showroom and he (later got to know that he is salesman not workshop person) said that burning smell is normal for new bike so continued at top speed.

    After 200-210 km I came to know that the speed shouldn't be more than 50 km/h for first 1,000-1,500kms for new bikes and after that I never went above 50-52 km/h.

    After 350 kms, I got it checked about engine heat issue from Bharat Bajaj itself. First the guy throw water and heated up engine and upon inquiring he said that nothing will happen and told that heating is not much.

    I got it serviced at 800 kms in same showroom workshop. They used Bajaj 20w50 engine oil (₹410), gasket seal (₹50) and chain spray(₹100).

    Now condition is that even after 3-4 km engine heats up a lot. Today I rode for 20 kms and asked to a local mechanic. He told that engine heat is very much and oil could be a issue.

    Does Bajaj use low quality engine oil?
    Is my bike permanently damaged due to initial fast riding? What can be a solution?
    Anything else happened?
    Please tell me as much as possible, I and new a want to learn a lot.

    ( I complained to bajaj care number but today they closed complaint on their own).

      well, you should have read the xbhp's breaking in process for new motors, but now that you have did very good job in ruining the initial phase of breaking in, i would say follow the manual and keep the bike in good condition with time to time services specially if it is bajaj.

      i am just curious, why didn't you choose any of the apache 160 twins?

        New motorcycles tend to produce a lot of heat. Even I was worried when I got my first motorcycle but I checked and found out that it's quite common. There is nothing to worry. Just don't red line it and everything will be fine.

          I guess OP was trying the Italian Tune up with a new bike.

          On a serious note, if ore if nothing is wrong with the bike, no leakage etc. Drive under 50 for now, let the bike run in. Refer the running in thread for more info.

          A word of advise, change engine oil every 2k kms and air filter every 5k kms. And follow the usual maintenance tasks as per ASC schedule.

            sorry off topic, but as far as i know ferrari used to do italian tune up, or rather say they introduced it.
            but can we perform that on these new bs6 era bikes?
            italian tuning on a new engine,.. is it safe?

              Italian Tune up means that you are redlining to remove engine varnish and all. New engine needs to deposit some varnish before we do it. In short, it's for older engines.

                Well you are in the same boat as I was back in November 2019. I had bought my Pulsar 150 Neon in October and was diligently following running in period speeds as per the manual, never exceeded 50kmph and was riding the same road where I had to use different gears and speeds just to complete the 500 km for 1st service. Gues what? I was facing overheating and high idle (bike was clinging to 2100rpm when hot) in November Delhi winters.

                Your bike isn't permanently damaged but you have learnt a lesson not to ignore break in especially on Indian engines. 38xx kms in, I still don't feel my bike is fully bed in, though around 3100kms or something bike started to accelerate freely.

                Now coming back to solution to your problem, just get your carb tuned from a local mechanic who you know is good at his work. If you take it too Bajaj mechanic he will simply tune it for "mileage", i.e., very lean tuning which will ruin your engine in the long run. Thats what happened with me after the first service, bike was running on very lean mixture. If you can follow instructions well, search xbhp for carb tuning and follow the procedure.
                Yes, Bajaj engine oil is crap, don't keep it in your engine for more than 750kms after pouring. I used Motul 3000 post my 1st service and its the bang for buck oil.
                For now, shift gears at 4000rpm when you are just starting to move(give proper warmup time for first crank of the day) and after 4kms, shift gears at 5000rpm.

                  Its not the speed but the rpm that needs to be kept under limits. I would say keep it under 5k. And the 2nd and most imp thing is never use bajaj's engine oil. Its the worst you could buy for money. Simply get the motul 5100 of the recommended grade ur bike. And 3. change it within 2500-3000 km. And i tell u all this after owning a pulsar 180 for 6.5 years. Switched to yamaha now

                    but, using other oil than that of bajaj's will void the warranty of the bike in the warranty period.

                      Who's asking the OP to get the oil poured by Bajaj mechanics? He can it done by outside mechanic and he doesn't need to say a word to SVC about it.

                        it feels like being in cage until warranty gets over for vehicles i mean in a favourable way
